Overview
First Impressions
When I first stumbled upon The Red Door House tucked away on South Park Road in London’s Wimbledon area, I honestly wasn’t sure what to expect. This unique boutique hotel doesn’t fit into the typical star rating system, and that’s actually part of its charm. The name gives it away — there’s literally a striking red door that welcomes you into what feels more like a stylish friend’s place than a traditional hotel.
The Wimbledon Connection
You know what’s brilliant about staying here? You’re practically on Wimbledon’s doorstep, but without the chaos of being right in the tennis district during the championships. The location on South Park Road means you get that proper residential London feel — tree-lined streets, Victorian houses, the works. I mean, you can walk to Wimbledon Common for a morning jog, and the tube station isn’t far when you want to zip into central London.
What Makes It Special
This place operates more like a boutique apartment setup than your standard hotel experience. Each unit has its own character, and the owners have clearly put thought into making guests feel at home rather than just providing a place to crash. The kitchen facilities in the units I’ve seen are actually functional — not just a mini-fridge and kettle situation. It’s the kind of place where you might actually cook a proper meal if you’re staying for a few days.
The Experience
What struck me most was how personal everything feels. The hosts are genuinely helpful without being overbearing, and they seem to know the local area inside and out. When I needed dinner recommendations, I got proper local spots rather than the usual tourist traps. The room itself was comfortable and well-thought-out, with little touches that showed someone actually cares about the guest experience rather than just maximizing bookings.
Why Guests Love It
Honestly, if you’re looking for a cookie-cutter hotel experience with a concierge and room service, this probably isn’t your spot. But if you want to feel like you’re staying somewhere with personality in one of London’s more authentic neighborhoods, The Red Door House delivers. The 8.2 rating makes sense — it’s not trying to be everything to everyone, but what it does, it does well. Plus, there’s something refreshing about a place that doesn’t need to chase official ratings to prove its worth.

"Couldn't be cleaner!"
100% clean! Couldn't be more satisfied with both the room and the bathroom
Quiet and comfortable. Also provided an iron and a hair dryer. Self check in was really convenient for us since we had a delayed flight and came really late. The kitchen seemed very convenient, clean and with proper facilities, although we didn't use it.
Nice neighborhood. There's a lovely tea house 3min from there.
Caring people after all!
What could be improved: If it also had a euro-adaptor for power plugs and 1-2 bottles of water, that would be perfect. They had a usb hub for charging phones, though, and the supermarket is close, so it did the job

"Very good"
We were looking for a cheap place to stay, that was located not so far from the Queens Club during Wimbledon week. The Red House delivered on all of this. We requested an early check-in and Luiza delivered on this. We met Luiza at the property as we arrived, she was lovely, welcoming and left us to it.
What could be improved: Being in a room in a shared property, you have to accept the risk of being woken up by other residents. Which did happen at the early hours of the morning. But this is beyond immediate control. A safe in the room would be a nice added bonus to keep personal effects secure. But otherwise, zero complaints.

Good location, exceptionally clean, kettle, hairdryer and tea/coffee appreciated (though English Breakfast would have been preferred!).

"Good location, pleasant stay. Just needs a blind and better matresses."
Location was good for getting to Wimbledon. Enquiries were answered in no time especially when phoning.
What could be improved: Bed was broke however, response was immediately given. Matresses not the best. Needed a blind as we went to bed early as up early. Other guests were a little noisy when coming in but that’s not the owners fault.

"Good place , good price."
Very good location, close to Wimbledon mainline, South Wimbledon tube , and local busses , shops and bars.
We were in Room 1 , which is huge , with a double bed and a high bed..perfect for me and my daughters. The room was clean and beds were comfortable.
What could be improved: Shared bathroom. When fully booked, like it was for our stay , you are sharing a bathroom and one toilet between 7 people. Fine if you know each other quite challenging if you don’t. The hot water didn’t work on night 2 and morning 3
