Virgin Hotels London – Shoreditch
First Impressions
Walking up to Virgin Hotels London – Shoreditch on Curtain Road, you can tell immediately this isn’t your typical five-star hotel. The building has this industrial-chic vibe that fits perfectly with the whole Shoreditch aesthetic — you know, exposed brick mixed with modern glass, street art practically next door. It’s the kind of place where tech entrepreneurs grab coffee downstairs while artists walk by with paint-splattered jeans.
The Shoreditch Experience
Honestly, the location is what really sold me on this place. London’s creative quarter isn’t just marketing speak here — you’re literally surrounded by some of the city’s best galleries, vintage shops, and those tiny cocktail bars hidden behind unmarked doors. Boxpark Shoreditch is a five-minute walk if you want to grab something quick, and Old Street station connects you to the rest of the city without any fuss.
The Room
The room design is clever, I’ll give them that. Virgin’s done this thing where they’ve separated the sleeping area from a little lounge space — means you can actually spread out a bit instead of everything happening on the bed. The rainfall shower is properly luxurious (though the water pressure took a moment to get going), and there’s this mood lighting system that you’ll probably spend ten minutes figuring out but then never want to leave.
Dining and Social Spaces
The Commons Club downstairs works as both restaurant and social hub, which sounds a bit try-hard but actually works. The menu’s this mix of British classics with international twists — their Sunday roast is surprisingly good for a hotel. What I really appreciated was the flexible seating; you can grab a proper dinner table or just lounge on one of those velvet sofas with a drink and some small plates.
Why Guests Love It
Look, this isn’t the kind of place where you’ll find traditional luxury — no marble lobbies or doormen in top hats. Instead, it’s got this relaxed, creative energy that matches the neighborhood perfectly. The staff genuinely seem to know the area (ask them about the best street food on Brick Lane), and there’s free wifi that actually works throughout the building. Plus, the rooftop terrace gives you decent views over East London’s skyline, especially nice during summer evenings when you can hear the buzz from the markets below.
