The Soho Hotel, Firmdale Hotels
First Impressions
Walking down Richmond Mews feels like stumbling onto a film set — honestly, you half expect a vintage car to round the corner. The Soho Hotel, Firmdale Hotels sits perfectly in this cobbled street, and the moment you step inside, you’re hit with this explosion of color and pattern that somehow works brilliantly together. It’s quintessentially Kit Kemp’s design philosophy, and after staying here twice, I can say it never gets old.
Location & Neighborhood
You’re literally in the heart of London’s theater district here — I mean, you can walk to most West End shows in under five minutes. What I love about this spot is how it manages to feel like a secret hideaway despite being so central. The mews location means you’re tucked away from the Oxford Street chaos, but Tottenham Court Road tube is right there when you need it. Actually, some of the city’s best independent coffee shops are within a two-minute walk, which became my morning ritual.
The Luxury Experience
This five-star property does luxury without the stuffiness — there’s a genuine warmth here that you don’t always find in high-end London hotels. The spa downstairs is compact but perfectly formed, and I spent way too much time in the gym (which, surprisingly for central London, has proper equipment). The staff remember your name after one night, and they actually seem to enjoy working there, which makes such a difference to the whole experience.
Rooms & Dining
My room was this gorgeous mix of bold prints and unexpected color combinations — think hot pink mixed with emerald green, but somehow it felt sophisticated rather than overwhelming. The beds are seriously comfortable, and you know what? The blackout curtains actually work, which isn’t always a given in London. The Refuel restaurant serves excellent food — I had their weekend brunch twice and the eggs Benedict was spot-on, though honestly, the atmosphere is just as much of a draw as the menu.
Why Guests Love It
There’s something special about staying somewhere that feels like a proper London experience rather than just another hotel. The Soho Hotel captures that creative energy of the neighborhood while providing all the luxury touches you’d expect from Firmdale. Whether you’re here for theater, shopping, or just soaking up the city, this place becomes part of the experience rather than just somewhere to sleep. I’ve recommended it to friends countless times, and they always get why I keep coming back.
