Home House – Private Member’s Club
First Impressions
Home House – Private Member’s Club isn’t your typical five-star hotel — it’s actually a Georgian townhouse turned luxury members’ club that opens its doors to non-members for overnight stays. Walking up to the elegant façade on Portman Square, you immediately sense this place operates by different rules than your standard London hotel. The doorman knows your name before you’ve even checked in, and honestly, that attention to detail sets the tone for everything that follows.
The Atmosphere
What strikes you first is how this feels more like staying at an exceptionally well-appointed private residence than a commercial property. The interiors blend classic Georgian architecture with contemporary touches — think original fireplaces alongside modern art installations. You know what’s brilliant about this place? The way they’ve maintained that exclusive club atmosphere while making hotel guests feel genuinely welcome rather than like outsiders looking in.
The Room Experience
Each room feels completely unique — no cookie-cutter hotel standardization here. Mine had these gorgeous tall windows overlooking the square, and the furnishings mixed antique pieces with luxurious modern amenities. The bathroom was particularly impressive, with those deep soaking tubs that actually fit a full-sized adult (you’d be surprised how rare that is). What I loved most was the attention to lighting — they’ve clearly thought about how spaces feel at different times of day.
Dining & Social Spaces
The restaurant operates more like what you’d find in a high-end members’ club, which means the food is genuinely excellent rather than just hotel-adequate. I mean, when your dining room doubles as a space where actual members bring important clients, the standards have to be higher. The bar area becomes quite lively in the evenings — there’s this energy that comes from mixing hotel guests with club members that creates something more dynamic than your typical hotel lobby scene.
Why Guests Love It
Location-wise, you’re perfectly positioned between Oxford Street’s shopping chaos and the quieter residential streets of Marylebone — close enough to everything but tucked away on a proper Georgian square that feels removed from tourist London. The staff genuinely seem to enjoy working here, which translates into service that feels personal rather than performative. It’s the sort of place where you might find yourself extending your stay just because leaving feels like giving up membership to an exclusive club you’ve only just discovered.
