Overview
First Impressions
Walking up to The Hammock Lodge, Holborn, by the Design Traveller on Grays Inn Road, you’ll notice this isn’t your typical four-star hotel. The building has this understated charm that feels more like discovering a well-kept secret than checking into a chain property. Honestly, the name gives it away — there’s a deliberate quirkiness here that extends from the branding right through to the guest experience.
Location & Getting Around
The Camden location works brilliantly, actually. You’re close enough to central London that Russell Square tube station is just a few minutes’ walk, but far enough from the tourist crowds that you feel like you’re staying somewhere locals might actually choose. King’s Cross is practically next door, which I mean, if you’re arriving by train it’s perfect. The legal quarter of Holborn is right there too — all those beautiful Georgian squares and historic pubs that most visitors never stumble upon.
The Room Experience
Each room has this carefully curated feel that lives up to the “Design Traveller” part of the name. The interiors blend modern comfort with thoughtful touches — think quality linens, smart lighting, and furniture that actually makes sense for travelers. What I appreciated most was the attention to detail; there’s proper desk space if you need to work, and the bathrooms have those little luxuries that make a difference after a long day exploring the city.
Amenities & Dining
The ground-floor restaurant serves food that’s several notches above typical hotel fare. They focus on seasonal British ingredients but without the stuffiness you sometimes get in London hotel dining. Breakfast here is worth getting up for — proper coffee, locally sourced ingredients, and options that go beyond the standard continental spread. There’s also a small bar area that feels intimate rather than corporate, perfect for that end-of-day drink.
Why Guests Love It
You know what sets this place apart? It’s the kind of hotel that feels intentional rather than cookie-cutter. The 8.6 rating makes sense when you experience how the staff actually seem to care about your stay, and how the design elements work together to create something memorable. It’s particularly great for travelers who want to be in London rather than just passing through — the neighborhood gives you that authentic feel, while the hotel itself provides a stylish base that doesn’t break the bank like some of the West End properties do.

"Convenient and comfortable stay."
Comfortable apartment with adequate space and facilities. Good location for business in the Chancery Lane area. Easy walking distance from Chancery Land and Farringdon tube stations and hence to Heathrow. Many pubs in the area serving good food. Close to Co-op supermarket which stocks all the essentials.
What could be improved: The apartment itself was spotlessly clean. However, the entrance and stairwell were not.

"Clean. Bright. Excellent location to explore London"
Ideally located! Bus stop and COOP grocery store two minutes walk away. Post office two minutes the other way along with under ground entrances! We found the buses so perfect. #38 bus took us in and out of the theatre district.
Kitchen appeared bigger in the pictures however It was compact and perfect for our needs. We explored London all day, and spent the evening relaxing here after. Nice to relax and watch a movie. TV located in the main bedroom. The pull out bed in the kitchen area was comfortable. Linens all nice and clean. Great cross breeze from bedroom window and kitchen window open. Two fans which was nice as it was a sunny hot weekend!
Be mindful if you struggle with lots of stairs and /or have heavy luggage. We managed however my Mum is elderly. We knew before we stayed that stairs were part of what to expect.
Basic amenities were there: s&P, sugar, tea bags.
There is a freezer-but no ice cube tray!
Would recommend for a couple. A family with perhaps two smaller children/sharing a bed. Two friends-as there are essentially ‘two bedrooms’
What could be improved: I’d say the stairs were a bit of a challenge. But that’s more because of one guest being elderly.

"Exceptional"
Great location, well connected with buses and metro to the other parts of London.
The apartment is new, well designed and comfortable, the second bed (the couch) was really comfortable.
The bathroom is clean and with complimentary shampoo and conditioner in the shower.
The kitchen is small but useful for a few days stay.
What could be improved: Maybe a copy of the keys could be useful, especially for three travellers, as once we split up we had only one copy.

"A pleasant day in a clean, comfortable and well located flat."
It is in a great location and only a few minutes walk from the nearest tube at Chancery Lane. The property was very clean and comfortable. Communication from the host was excellent. Access to the lockbox was clear and easy. The bed was particularly comfortable.
What could be improved: The apartment could be enhanced by the inclusion of a TV in either the lounge or bedroom, although I read my book, so it was perfectly manageable!

"It was excellent very happy"
Excellent property I’d definitely stay again just wish it had a little tv in that would of been great 👍🏼
What could be improved: Code being around the corner would be better right by the door when arriving very late and it was dark.

"we had a great time in London but we won’t be staying at that property"
it has a great location. the owner kept the communication smooth and kept on checking that everything was ok and that we did not need anything so this is very good 😊 it has everything we need so this is really good as well
What could be improved: The pictures don’t reflect the reality of the place which was much smaller and not as beautiful as we expected. the bed and sofa bed are not comfortable but ok for a couple of nights . it should be repainted and refurbished at some point. it was expensive for what it was but then again London is expensive and we paid to be well located 😉

"Super host and location, recommended!"
The host was excellent with communication and very polite and helpful. The location is superb being close to both Chancery Lane and Farringdon stations, also lots of nice coffee shops, bakeries and food nearby. Would stay again for sure!
What could be improved: Property is small and yes as others have said the shared entrance and stairwell is unpleasant, the flat itself however is very clean.

"Very good"
Location is nice. Apartment is clean. Beds are comfortable.
What could be improved: No fresh air in the bedroom, even with open windows. AC would be helpful during hot summer.
