Sidney Hotel London-Victoria
First Impressions
Walking up to Sidney Hotel London-Victoria, you’ll notice it’s not trying too hard to impress — and honestly, that’s refreshing. The Victorian terrace building sits comfortably on Belgrave Road, and while it won’t win any architectural awards, there’s something reassuring about its straightforward approach. The lobby is compact but welcoming, with staff who actually seem to remember faces rather than just booking numbers.
Location & Getting Around
Here’s what I love about this spot — you’re literally a three-minute walk from Victoria Station, which means the Gatwick Express is right there when you need it. But more importantly, you’re in Pimlico really, not just tourist-land Victoria. There’s a proper Tesco Express around the corner (trust me, you’ll use it), and honestly, the whole Belgrave Road area has this lived-in London feel that a lot of central hotels miss. The restaurant scene nearby is surprisingly good too — I mean, you’ve got everything from Vietnamese pho joints to old-school pubs within a five-minute walk.
The Room Experience
Look, this is a three-star place, so don’t expect marble bathrooms or Egyptian cotton sheets. What you will get is a clean, well-maintained room that feels bigger than you’d expect for central London. The beds are actually comfortable (I was skeptical at first), and there’s proper storage space — not just a tiny wardrobe that barely fits a weekend bag. The Wi-Fi works throughout the building, which you can’t always count on with older London hotels.
Daily Life at the Hotel
The breakfast situation is pretty solid for what you’re paying. It’s not a full English feast, but there’s enough variety to get you going, and the coffee is decent — well, better than decent by British hotel standards anyway. What I really appreciate is how the place runs smoothly without being fussy. You can grab your key and head out without navigating through crowds of tour groups or dealing with overly complicated check-in procedures.
Why Guests Keep Coming Back
You know what makes this place work? It gets the basics right without any pretense. The location saves you serious money on transport, the rooms are genuinely comfortable for sleeping, and the whole operation feels reliable. I’ve stayed here multiple times now, and it’s become my go-to when I need to be near Victoria Station but don’t want to blow the budget on some corporate chain hotel. Plus, there’s something to be said for a place where the staff recognize you — it makes London feel a bit smaller, which isn’t always easy to find.
