Overview
First Impressions
Walking up to the Aspen Hotel on Sussex Gardens, you’ll notice it’s one of those classic Victorian townhouse conversions that London does so well. The white facade fits right in with the neighborhood’s elegant terraced houses, and honestly, it’s got more character than those big chain hotels you see everywhere. It’s a solid three-star place that doesn’t try to be something it’s not — just good, honest accommodation in a prime spot.
Location Perks
Here’s what I love about this location — you’re literally a three-minute walk from Paddington Station, which is huge if you’re catching the Heathrow Express or heading out to explore the Cotswolds. Hyde Park is right there too, perfect for morning jogs or just escaping the city buzz. The area’s got that mix of residential calm and tourist energy, with plenty of cafes and pubs scattered around Sussex Gardens where you can grab a proper English breakfast or evening pint.
The Rooms
My room was compact but thoughtfully laid out — typical London style where every inch counts. The bed was comfortable enough, and I actually appreciated the simple decor without too much fuss. The ensuite bathroom was small but functional, with decent water pressure (always a win in older London buildings). You know what surprised me? The soundproofing was better than expected, considering you’re so close to a major transport hub.
Daily Essentials
The continental breakfast gets the job done — nothing fancy, but there’s fresh coffee, pastries, and the usual cereals and fruit to fuel your day. Staff are genuinely helpful too; they gave me solid recommendations for local restaurant options and were quick to sort out extra towels when I asked. There’s no parking on-site, but honestly, you don’t need a car from here — the tube connections are brilliant.
Why Guests Love It
What makes Aspen Hotel work is its no-nonsense approach to hospitality. You’re paying for a clean, comfortable base in an unbeatable location, not bells and whistles you probably won’t use anyway. The 7.9 rating reflects exactly what you get — solid value without any nasty surprises. If you want to be steps from Paddington, walking distance to Oxford Street shopping, and have Hyde Park as your backyard, this place delivers on all counts.

"Reasonable accommodation in a good location. Would stay there again."
Great location. Easy access to buses and underground, close to Kensington Park, good coffee shops. Having a washing machine was a plus. The staff were friendly, although sometimes difficult to understand as most were not native English speakers.
What could be improved: The kitchen was not provided with enough equipment to make it usable. For example, only 3 pieces of each type of cutlery, no bowls to mix in or for a salad. A dark patch on the wall in the sitting room looked like mildew that had been painted over. If is isn’t mildew it would be better to cover it with artwork.

"Overall pleasant stay with some unexpected expenses"
Location of the property was pretty good, public transport, shops and restaurants were available nearby. The rooms were clean and spacious enough, the beds were comfortable and there was an extra linen available for sleeping on the couch. Our room had a fully equipped kitchen with a possibility to make tea and coffee for free.
What could be improved: The windows didn't close all the way (or at least we couldn't figure out how to close them) therefore we could hear the street noises all night. Parking fee was not included in the price since the hotel parking lot is operated by a third party and we found it rather expensive.

"Nice and clean place to stay especially if you want to be close to the Underground."
Close to Paddington Underground.
What could be improved: Noisey floors but it is an old building.

"Great location, comfy, neat and safe."
Location was unbeatable - short stroll to Paddington Station, felt safe.
What could be improved: Water tank maintenance meant no drinkable (cookable, tooth brush-able) water. Reception would sell us some, but we bought elsewhere and it was a logistical challenge to carry as much as we needed as we were catering for our allergic son with all our own meal prep. Three kids, no car.

"Mandated stay was ok"
Some confusion over accessing the internet. I found a dead WiFi router in a kitchen cupboard

"Great clean roomy apartment that is in a fantastic location."
Location was great to get to Paddington station for Heathrow express and lots of cafes around to eat.
What could be improved: I think the luggage storage could be improved by luggage tags and staff attend with customer to retrieve by giving the luggage receipt for extra security. Our other London hotel did this.
