Overview
First Impressions
Walking up to the Commodore Hotel on Lancaster Gate, you immediately notice how it fits seamlessly into that classic Paddington streetscape — white Victorian townhouses stretching as far as you can see. It’s not trying to be flashy, which I actually appreciate. The entrance feels welcoming without being overly grand, and honestly, that sets the tone for the whole experience.
Perfect Paddington Spot
Here’s what I love about this location — you’re literally a two-minute walk from Hyde Park, which means morning jogs or evening strolls are basically mandatory. London can feel overwhelming, but this corner of Paddington strikes that perfect balance between accessibility and calm. Lancaster Gate tube station is right there, so you can be in Oxford Circus in about fifteen minutes, but when you come back at night, you’re not dealing with the chaos of central tourist areas.
The Room Experience
The room I stayed in was compact but thoughtfully laid out — and I mean that in the best way possible. Everything has its place, and the decor feels fresh without trying too hard to be trendy. The bed was genuinely comfortable (I’m picky about mattresses), and the shower had proper water pressure, which you know can be hit or miss in older London buildings. The windows actually open too, which seems small but makes such a difference when you want fresh air.
Daily Essentials
Breakfast happens in a bright ground-floor space that doesn’t feel cramped despite the hotel’s size. It’s not an elaborate buffet situation, but what they do offer is solid — proper English breakfast options alongside lighter continental choices. The coffee is better than expected, and the staff genuinely seems to remember your preferences after a day or two. There’s also a small lounge area where you can actually sit and plan your day without feeling rushed.
Why Guests Love It
This three-star place gets the fundamentals right without pretending to be something it’s not. The staff knows the neighborhood inside and out — they’ll send you to the good pub around the corner or tell you which way to walk through Hyde Park to avoid crowds. It’s clean, comfortable, and positioned perfectly for exploring both central London and the quieter residential areas that most tourists never see. You’re paying for location and reliability here, and honestly, that combination works beautifully for this part of the city.

"Good location, clean room but bathroom on a different level ( down stairs)"
Staff were a bit off putting on arrival as they didn’t explain about why they wanted extra identification even after showing them relevant documents. We felt intimidated by them in there manner.
The entrance to the hotel was dangerous when wet as the floor was slippery with limited signage. As this will continue to be an issue then it needs to be addressed but a none slip floor.
What could be improved: Slippery outside entrance, floor, which is dangerous.

"Great price and location"
My room was just the right size, excellent water pressure in the shower, equipped with a fridge and coffee/tea making facilities and a window that could be opened. Loved it. It was perfect for our stay.

"Great stay and good value for money"
The room was very comfortable and the staff were all helpful and friendly. The location was also very good
What could be improved: The only slight issue to mention is that the bathroom we had was compact and a little difficult to move around in - but it was spotless

"Great location and helpful staff"
Great location close to Hyde park and close to tube station for travel around London. We messaged ahead to say we were gluten free for breakfast and they had ensured that they had gluten free options for us which was appreciated.
What could be improved: Room was spacious but bed wasn’t particularly comfortable - mattress was hard, and the bathroom was next to the room door but down a staircase from the bedroom, which isn’t great if you need the bathroom during the night
