First Impressions
When I first walked into ShyWharf, honestly, I wasn’t sure what to expect from this unique boutique hotel without official star rating tucked away on Admiralty Avenue. The name pretty much captures it perfectly — it’s quietly confident without shouting for attention. The entrance has this understated industrial charm that immediately tells you this place isn’t trying to be like every other hotel in London.
Location & Getting Around
You know what’s brilliant about staying in Newham? You’re actually close to some really interesting parts of East London that most tourists completely miss. The ExCeL exhibition center is practically next door, which makes this spot perfect if you’re in town for events or conferences. Plus, the DLR connections from here get you into central London faster than you’d think — I mean, you can be at Canary Wharf in minutes.
The Room Experience
My room had this cool blend of modern fixtures with exposed brick details that felt authentically East London. The beds are seriously comfortable, and I appreciated the little touches like locally-sourced toiletries and that perfect reading light setup. What really struck me was how quiet it stays despite being in such a connected area — the soundproofing actually works.
Dining & Local Flavor
The on-site restaurant focuses on seasonal British ingredients, and their weekend brunch has become something of a local secret. I watched plenty of neighborhood regulars pop in, which is always a good sign. If you’re feeling adventurous, the surrounding area has some fantastic Caribbean and South Asian spots that represent the real diversity of this part of London — just ask the front desk for their personal recommendations.

"Short Pleasant stay"
Great location for where we needed to get to. Presentable and pleasant stay. Very modern in a modern area with lots of amenities in property
What could be improved: Only advised how to collect keys 5 minutes before check in time.
Would be good if parking was included in price

The apartment is lovely and the area is great, looks amazing and there is supermarkets, cafes, desert places and more nearby. Plus its a short walk from the excel centre.
What could be improved: No signal anywhere in the area. Make sure to message the host an hour or 2 before you get there as there is a pickup point for keys and parking rules etc. We had plumbing issues but they sent someone to fix that as we were leaving so it should be fine.

The host was a perfect host!! Very attentive and looked after us very well! He had a leak in the original flat so offered us a different place and even sorted out the parking for me as the 2nd place didn’t have any! He took the stress out of our short stay! We will book him again!!! :-)

We absolutely loved the location as it was only a 15 minute walk from ExCel (which is the main reason we were in London). There’s many restaurants around the corner, and at our apartment building there was a Sainsbury’s only 1 minute away, which was open until 11pm. Perfect if you need a snack or if you forgot to buy breakfast! The nearest subway stations are also only 5-10 minutes away, which is wonderful if you want to go see the centre of London. You can always message or even text the staff if you need extra things like towels or just help in general.
What could be improved: There weren’t any negatives, and even the small things were outweighed by the positives. Our balcony door couldn’t be closed but Shywharf offered to come and help us (though we didn’t have time to allow them in, which was our own fault. Still really nice of them to offer help, though!).
