First Impressions
Walking up to London ExCel 2 Bed Apartment on Seagull Lane, I’ll be honest — it doesn’t scream “wow” from the outside. But that’s kind of the point with these residential-style places in Newham. What you get is something that feels more like staying at a local friend’s flat than a typical hotel, and honestly, that works really well here. The building’s modern enough that you won’t worry about dodgy plumbing, but it’s got that lived-in London feel that makes you feel like you actually belong in the neighborhood.
Location & Getting Around
Here’s what I love about this spot — you’re literally a stone’s throw from ExCeL London, which is brilliant if you’re here for an exhibition or event. The DLR connection at Custom House is about a 10-minute walk, and that gets you into central London surprisingly quickly. You know what though? The area itself is pretty interesting to wander around. There’s this whole waterside development happening, and you can actually walk along the Thames Path if you fancy a proper London riverside stroll without the tourist crowds.
The Apartment Setup
The apartment itself is what sold me on this four-star place. Two proper bedrooms mean you’re not cramming everyone into one space, and the living area actually feels like somewhere you’d want to hang out after a long day exploring. The kitchen is fully kitted out — not just a kettle and mini-fridge situation — so you can properly cook if you want to save some cash or just fancy a quiet night in. I mean, London restaurant prices being what they are, having that option is pretty valuable.
Practical Comforts
Each room has decent storage space, which sounds boring but trust me, when you’re living out of suitcases it matters. The wifi actually works properly (I’ve stayed places where it definitely doesn’t), and the shower has proper pressure. These aren’t glamorous details, but they’re the things that make or break a stay when you’re here for more than just a quick weekend. The whole place feels clean and well-maintained, not like some serviced apartments that feel a bit tired around the edges.
Why Guests Love It
What really works about this place is the balance — you get the space and freedom of having your own flat, but with the reliability of proper hospitality standards. The 9-point rating makes sense when you consider what you’re getting for the price point in this part of London. It’s particularly good if you’re traveling with family or friends, since everyone can spread out a bit instead of being on top of each other. Plus, being slightly off the main tourist trail means you get a glimpse of how Londoners actually live, which I always find more interesting than staying in the West End bubble.
