Overview
First Impressions
Walking into BnBNova – 1BR – St Paul’s & Barbican, I was honestly surprised by how much space you get for a one-bedroom in this part of London. The place has that modern apartment feel — clean lines, decent furniture, and thankfully none of that overly twee décor you sometimes get with short-term rentals. It’s clearly set up for people who actually want to live here for a few days, not just crash between tourist activities.
Location Magic
You know what’s brilliant about staying in Islington? You’re close enough to walk to St Paul’s Cathedral (about 15 minutes if you don’t mind a pleasant stroll), but you’re not dealing with the tourist crowds every time you step outside. The Barbican is literally around the corner, which means you’ve got that whole cultural complex — concerts, exhibitions, the works — practically on your doorstep. I found myself grabbing coffee at the little places along the way and actually feeling like I belonged in the neighborhood rather than just visiting it.
The Space Itself
The room layout works really well — there’s a proper separation between the sleeping area and the living space, which makes a difference when you’re staying more than just a night or two. The kitchen is compact but functional; I mean, you’re not going to be hosting dinner parties, but you can definitely handle breakfast and simple meals without feeling cramped. The whole setup feels more like borrowing a friend’s flat than staying in a typical hotel room.
Daily Life Details
What I appreciated most was how the details actually work for real stays. The wifi doesn’t drop out every five minutes, the shower has proper water pressure, and there’s enough storage that you can unpack your suitcase instead of living out of it. The building itself is quiet — important when you’re in central London and trying to get some actual sleep. Getting around is dead easy too, with multiple tube stations within walking distance, though honestly, I ended up walking to most places because the area’s just pleasant to explore on foot.
Why Guests Love It
This four-star spot works because it gives you that local London experience without sacrificing comfort or convenience. You’re staying somewhere that feels authentically part of the city — not some generic hotel that could be anywhere. The Barbican area has this interesting mix of history and modern culture, and staying here means you get to experience both without the premium prices you’d pay closer to the main tourist zones. It’s the kind of place where you’ll find yourself planning to come back, which is honestly the best recommendation I can give any accommodation.
To book a hotel in London during opera season, visitors plan ahead to balance Royal Opera House nights with quiet Regent’s Canal strolls.

"Fab apartment and location..."
This apartment is spacious, stylish, fresh and feels safe. We loved the street it was in, with many little eateries, a supermarket, a middle of the day market, and multiple bus and subway access points. We loved having the kitchen, the washing machine and the openable windows (release the safety buttons). Fabulous place.
What could be improved: Well, I have to say that sending the large 'damage deposit' to a 4th party (not Booking.com) put me ill at ease! This renter is big on paperwork. Lots of info given and lots requested. Return of the deposit however, was slow, and only forthcoming 30 days later, when I got Swikly Customer Service involved. I am pleased to get it all back however. Very pleased.

"Great pied a terre in the City. Modern clean apartment."
Very convenient location for the City close to Barbican and Moorgate tube stations. Nice and quiet at night. Well furnished including hair dryer and iron.
What could be improved: I was a bit concerned to find the boiler in the bedroom. I have never seen that before. Also there is a very large crack in the wall in the living room as you enter on the left wall. That will need replastering. It is a bit inconvenient to have to go to a different location to pick up and drop off the keys. Other places I have stayed have the lockbox by the main entrance.

"Ideal for a work trip"
This property is really nicely presented. It’s fresh, modern and well equipped for a comfortable stay. It was also spotlessly clean. The location is excellent - not far from Old Street and Moorgate stations. I was staying for work and it was ideal for this purpose, offering somewhere more homely than a hotel room to come back to. Price-wise it was only a little more expensive than the local Travelodge so it’s a great option.
What could be improved: It’s up a few flights of stairs - not an issue for me but might be inconvenient for some.

"Wouldn't stay again"
Apartment itself was pretty good and the location was excellent
What could be improved: They took a 600EUR deposit which I had to chase to get returned. It was returned in EUR so I lost 20-30 quid due to FX which is ridiculous. The hallways were filthy. The key collection was very inconvenient with bags and children. The shower flooded and they told me to go and buy drain unblocker, they didn't offer to fix it.

"Accomodation provider was very helpful. All the time during my stay they communicate swiftly via messages on booking.com"
The location was perfect, calm. Walk distance from City, 15 minute’s walk from St. Paul Cathedral. A direct bus connection to downtown.
The apartment was absolutelly clean and wonderfully equipped, quite spacy.
What could be improved: Nothing

"Good apartment but bad customer experience with payment"
Central location and apartmen well organized.
What could be improved: Customer experience having to pay for a large deposit on a different platform and not receiving any information about the place was not good, impossible to contact the place on the phone when needed before arrival, and two weeks after departure the deposit has still not been refunded. Additionally small and steep stairs to get to the apartment, not easy with luggage.
