Overview

First Impressions

Walking up to the Imperial Balfe Street Apartment on a quiet Islington street, you’d almost miss it if you weren’t looking — and honestly, that’s part of its charm. This four-star apartment sits tucked away from the main hustle, which means you get that authentic London residential feel without sacrificing access to everything you actually want to see. The building has that classic Victorian brick facade that makes you feel like you’re staying in a proper London neighborhood, not some touristy bubble.

The Space Itself

Inside, it’s clear someone put real thought into making this feel like a home rather than just another rental. The kitchen is actually functional — I mean, you could cook a proper meal here if you wanted to, with decent appliances and enough counter space to spread out. The room layout flows naturally, and there’s something refreshing about having separate living and sleeping areas when you’re staying somewhere for more than just a night or two.

Location Perks

Here’s what I love about Balfe Street — you’re in London proper, but it feels residential enough that you can grab morning coffee without fighting crowds of tourists. Angel tube station is maybe a seven-minute walk, which puts you on the Northern line straight into central London. But honestly, some of the best bits are right here in Islington — Chapel Market has this great weekend buzz, and there are enough local pubs that you won’t run out of places to try a proper pint.

Getting Around

The transport links are solid without being overwhelming. You know how some London accommodations dump you right next to a major station where it’s all noise and chaos? This isn’t that. You get easy access — King’s Cross is literally two stops away — but you also get to walk through actual London streets to get there. Parking can be tricky if you’re driving (this is Islington, after all), but most people staying here are using public transport anyway.

Why Guests Love It

What really sets this place apart is that balance between feeling local and being practical for visitors. You’re not staying in some sterile hotel corridor, but you’re also not dealing with the quirks that sometimes come with very old London properties. The 8.4 rating makes sense — it delivers on what it promises without trying to be something it’s not. If you want to experience London like you actually live here for a few days, rather than just passing through, this spot nails that feeling perfectly.

"Very good"
Nice and spacious unit, well equipped. Up one flight of stairs. Is a bit more dated than appears in the photos. Handy location near public transport and express groceries. Would recommend

"Superb"
Location was excellent. Tube was 5 min walk. Tesco express was 50m away. Miller's pub. 100meters away. Great Location.
What could be improved: No ironing board despite a great iron provided. Front door area was very untidy. Rubbish bags not collected. The front door area needed a good sweep for leaves and litter.

"Could’ve been a 10 out of 10, but just a couple of little things marked it down."
Location. Nice clean towels and sheets. Washer, iron, ironing board, hairdryer, room fans. Plenty of plates, cups etc. Plenty of tv channels available. Decent sized bedroom and lounge area.
What could be improved: Tired and needs some updating and painting. Kitchen is an electrical hazard waiting to happen. They need an additional surface to put the microwave, kettle and toaster; rather than on top of each other. We couldn’t figure out the clothes aired. It was in 2 pieces and appeared to be broken. Front door entry is a mess. Needs sweeping and washing down. Nothing major, but you did ask!

"Well positioned apartment on first floor of building."
The location of the property was ideal. It was right next to a supermarket and a five minute walk from the train station.Lots of bars and restaurants nearby.Bedrooms had plenty of wardrobe space and beds were comfy.
What could be improved: Rubbish piled up just outside the entrance to the property. It caused a very unpleasant smell.reported this shortly after arrival and it was still there when we left two days later which was disappointing.

"A nice stay in great location."
Great location and the flat was nice and clean. Suitable for our family of five. Tesco and some restaurants nearby. The sofabed was comfortable. All communication went well.
What could be improved: The kitchen could have a small table for the toaster and the kettle which were now quite dangerously on top of the microwave. Street noises were quite loud at night. The bed in the smaller bedroom had a very sharp corner which scratched and bruised my leg multiple times when walking by.

"Great apartment close to King's Cross Station"
Good location, just a short walk from King's Cross Station as well as plenty of bars & restaurants. The property is also a good size for a group of 4 and we found the beds very comfortable.
What could be improved: There were bags of rubbish at the front door when we arrived, which isn't the best first impression. We arrived on a weekend though, so assume these were due to be uplifted during the week. The bath was also very slippy & could benefit from a mat.

"Comfortable and convenient. Doorway needs an urgent clean but the flat itself was pleasant and warm"
Well located, two minutes from Kings Cross/St Pancras
What could be improved: Entrance was grimy. Kitchen has insufficient surfaces for all the appliances - kettle and coffee machine on top of the microwave and and we had to put the toaster on the floor. A small table would be enough.

"Good location"
The location was great.
What could be improved: No tea bags, no lamp in one bedroom, no lamp downstairs, the laundry hanger was broken, no sink plug in the kitchen, no curtain for the large hallway window making it very bright in the apartment very early.
