First Impressions
The Homestay, Upmarket, Wimbledon & Southfields; beside tube; (20 mins to centre) walk to Tennis has probably the longest name I’ve ever encountered for accommodation, but honestly, it tells you everything you need to know upfront. This unique boutique hotel without official star rating sits on a quiet residential street in Wandsworth, and from the outside, you’d think it’s just another Victorian terraced house. The 9.6 rating makes a lot more sense once you step inside though.
Location & Getting Around
Clonmore Street is one of those lovely tree-lined roads that feels properly residential — you know, the kind where locals walk their dogs and kids ride bikes on the pavement. The Southfields tube station is literally around the corner, which means you’re genuinely 20 minutes from central London on the District line. What I really appreciated was how walkable everything is; the All England Lawn Tennis Club is about a 10-minute stroll if you’re here during tournament season, and there’s a proper high street with decent coffee shops and a Waitrose nearby.
The Space
This place operates more like a high-end homestay than a traditional hotel, and that’s actually its strongest point. The room I stayed in had this lovely mix of period features — original cornicing, tall windows — with genuinely thoughtful modern touches. There’s a shared kitchen area that’s been fitted out with everything you’d actually want to use, not just the basics. The hosts have clearly put effort into making it feel like you’re staying in someone’s well-appointed home rather than a sterile hotel room.
The Experience
What sets this place apart is the personal attention without it feeling intrusive. The hosts know the area inside and out — they’ll tell you which pub does the best Sunday roast (it’s the Roundhouse) and where to catch the best view of the common. I mean, you’re not getting 24-hour room service or a concierge desk, but you are getting genuine local knowledge and flexibility that most hotels can’t match. The whole setup feels more like staying with knowledgeable friends who happen to have impeccable taste.
Why Guests Love It
This works brilliantly if you want to experience London like a local rather than a tourist. You’re in a proper residential neighborhood with easy transport links, but you’re not paying Zone 1 prices or dealing with tourist crowds outside your door. The tennis connection is obviously a draw if you’re here for Wimbledon, but honestly, it’s just a really pleasant base for exploring London. The 9.6 rating reflects what you get — personal service, a great location that locals actually live in, and that rare feeling of being genuinely welcomed rather than just processed.
