Overview
First Impressions
Tucked away on a quiet garden square in Kensington, CG Kensington feels like stumbling upon a well-kept local secret. The Victorian townhouse facade doesn’t scream hotel — which is honestly part of its charm. You’ll walk past elegant white stucco buildings and wonder if you’ve got the right address, until you spot the discreet entrance that signals you’ve arrived at this four-star boutique property.
The Neighborhood Feel
What I love about this spot is how genuinely residential it feels in Kensington. Cheniston Gardens is one of those peaceful squares where you’ll see locals walking their dogs and the only sounds are footsteps on cobblestones. You’re actually just a few minutes from High Street Kensington tube station, but the tree-lined street makes you forget you’re in central London. The Natural History Museum is an easy walk, and you know what — so is Hyde Park when you need that morning jog or evening stroll.
The Rooms
My room had that perfect balance of period character and modern comfort that’s surprisingly hard to find in London hotels. The ceilings were high, the windows generous, and there was enough space to actually unpack without playing furniture Tetris. The bathroom was compact but well-designed — I mean, this is London, so you’re not expecting a sprawling marble palace. What impressed me was the attention to detail: proper lighting for getting ready, decent water pressure, and toiletries that didn’t feel like an afterthought.
Daily Life at the Hotel
The breakfast setup is straightforward but satisfying — continental style with fresh pastries and proper coffee that’ll get your day started right. There’s no full-service restaurant, but honestly, you’re in Kensington where incredible dining options are literally around every corner. The staff struck that perfect London balance of being helpful without being intrusive. They knew the neighborhood well and gave me actual useful recommendations, not just the tourist-trap suggestions you get at bigger hotels.
Why Guests Love It
CG Kensington works because it doesn’t try to be something it’s not. It’s a well-run, comfortable hotel in an enviable location that lets you experience London like a temporary resident rather than a tourist passing through. The 7.9 rating makes sense — it’s not trying to wow you with flashy amenities, but it delivers consistently on the things that actually matter when you’re exploring the city. You’ll sleep well, start your day properly, and step out into one of London’s most beautiful neighborhoods feeling like you belong there.

"Good value for money, clean, tidy and comfy."
Really comfy bed, clean and tidy. Room was a good size, fridge in the room was nice and a kettle to make a hot drink. Would definitely stay again! Staff were really friendly
What could be improved: The bathroom was very small, some fixtures in the bathroom was loose - like the toilet roll holder and the door on the shower. Shower was very small but warm and pressure was good. Curtains were a little worn and room was a little dark during the day
Property was hard to find, no sign on the building.

"Stayed for the location"
LOCATION fantastic fantastic fantastic location minutes from High St Kensington and so close to the tube station, very pretty street, safe and quiet. Appreciated the coffee machine. Smart TV and the bed was comfy and the room / bathroom clean though a bit of wear and tear and tiny. Very hot. Opened window. Stuck and couldn’t close it!
What could be improved: Don’t stay downstairs. near reception / front door 🥳- make sure at the back or upstairs be fine! - our room 5 was noisy late evening towards midnight! Everyone coming in has no choice but to slam the door - the door makes a racket - !!as do the late night guests - and there is no-one at reception after 9 pm - so no help to open window or sort out very hot room! All waterworks from the room above ours (5) loudly heard in our room.

"Good value rooms"
Great location near Albert Hall which was our destination. Basic but comfortable and clean room with tea/coffee and hairdryer. Good value for the location. No extra charge for wifi. Good quality TV.
What could be improved: There were no reading lights in my room and I couldn't get the waterfall shower to work. It's room only so no breakfast, though there are plenty of places nearby for that. There were free toiletries but I had to use my teeth to open the sachets!

"Excellent"
Excellent location, excellent value for money. Very helpful staff.
What could be improved: Stairs to top floor were very narrow, hard to get a case up and down them. The carpet on a few stairs was loose and a bit of a trip hazard

"Superb"
Fantastic location in the heart of Kensington, just around the corner from High Street Kensington tube station. The room was quiet, very clean, nicely decorated, and with quality furniture. The area is elegant and lively with many shops nearby.
What could be improved: They might have some rules about check-in hours and a deposit. However, considering the location and the property, that’s pretty understandable.
