Overview
First Impressions
Walking up to the Bloomsbury Palace Hotel on Gower Street, you get that immediate sense you’re in proper academic London. The Georgian townhouse facade fits right in with the surrounding university buildings, and honestly, that’s exactly what you want in this part of town. It’s a four-star place that doesn’t try too hard to impress — just solid, comfortable, and perfectly placed for exploring central London on foot.
The Bloomsbury Advantage
You know what’s brilliant about staying here? You’re literally surrounded by some of London’s best bits without the tourist chaos. The British Museum is a five-minute walk away, and I mean a proper leisurely stroll, not one of those “tourist five minutes” that actually takes fifteen. Russell Square tube station is right there too, which connects you to pretty much everywhere you’d want to go. Plus, you’ve got all these lovely garden squares nearby where locals actually hang out — not just visitor hotspots.
The Room Experience
The rooms are what you’d expect from a well-run London hotel — not massive, but thoughtfully laid out so you don’t feel cramped. Each room has decent storage space (always a win when you’re living out of a suitcase), and the beds are genuinely comfortable. The bathrooms are compact but functional, with good water pressure — something you actually appreciate after a long day walking around the city. They’ve kept some period features in the building, which gives the place character without feeling like you’re staying in a museum.
Dining and Daily Life
The hotel restaurant serves up solid British fare alongside international options, though honestly, you’re spoiled for choice in this neighborhood. There’s everything from proper pub grub at The Lamb (a gorgeous Victorian pub just around the corner) to excellent Indian food on nearby Charlotte Street. The hotel breakfast gets you sorted for the day — nothing fancy, but they do a decent full English if that’s your thing, plus lighter continental options.
Why Guests Keep Coming Back
What strikes me most about this place is how it just works for London. The staff actually know the area well and can point you toward things that aren’t in every guidebook. There’s parking available if you’re driving (though I’d honestly recommend against bringing a car into central London), and the whole operation runs smoothly without being stuffy. It’s the sort of hotel where you feel like you’re staying in London rather than just visiting — you’ll find yourself popping back between museum visits or before heading out for dinner, and it genuinely feels like a good base rather than just somewhere to sleep.
Guest reviews
"Ir was nice, but it’s too small and hot. Location top!"
The decoration, location, and staff were nice.
What could be improved: There wasn’t airconditioner, I visited in a very hot month, and the window couldn’t be closed. The room is smaller than it appears in the pictures.

SO great! I would highly recommend this place for a solo traveller. So affordable and had EVERYTHING you needed. From USBC charging to a cute little coffee/tea set up. Such a great stay. Breakfast was basic but all you needed. I will be back! For this price - it was amazing

"Great value for money in London Central"
Great price considering breakfast was Included and the location was amazing.
I arrived there early and could leave my bags in reception until I could check in, this allowed me to go explore in the meantime.
Location is great with tubes nearby and Euston station about at 10-15 min walk. Right around the corner from the British Museum.
Staff were very friendly and very helpful.
Breakfast room is small, which they do state to guests, so getting to breakfast early is a good idea. Decent selection for breakfast, better than what I expected - a range of hot and cold food.
Room was cozy but clean, smart tv, en suite, comfy beds. I was on the lower ground, so could sometimes hear footsteps above me but nothing too disrupting.
Plug sockets next to bed which is handy and a floor length mirror.
What could be improved: Was on lower ground with a window where people were often walking past, so kept my curtains closed for most of the stay, however it did have a netted curtain so keeping curtains closed isn't necessary, it was more just my preference.

"Very good"
The triple room was quite spacious and had all the necessary amenities. Housekeeping was done daily. The breakfast was modest but absolutely sufficient for us. The hotel's location was excellent — just a few minutes' walk from the British Museum and the Zoological Museum. The metro station was nearby, and it was only a couple of stops to the city center. The staff were very attentive and friendly.
What could be improved: There was no air conditioning in the room, and the heat during our stay was truly abnormal. It was very stuffy inside, and a single fan running constantly didn’t help much. :(
