Overview
First Impressions
Walking up to BAYCROFT House on Sutton Court Road, you’d honestly miss it if you weren’t looking — and that’s actually part of its charm. This three-star guesthouse sits quietly in residential Chiswick, feeling more like you’re staying at a well-appointed friend’s place than a typical hotel. The Victorian terrace house has that understated London elegance that doesn’t shout for attention, which I found refreshing after dealing with the usual tourist crowds.
The Chiswick Advantage
Here’s what I love about this location — you’re genuinely in a proper London neighborhood, not some sanitized hotel district. Chiswick has this village-y feel that locals are quite protective of, with excellent pubs (The George & Devonshire is a five-minute walk) and that Sunday market energy along the high street. The Turnham Green tube station is close enough that you can reach central London in about 20 minutes, but honestly, you might find yourself wanting to just wander around the area instead.
What You’re Getting
The room I stayed in was compact but thoughtfully arranged — typical London proportions, really, but they’ve made smart use of the space. Everything felt clean and well-maintained, though don’t expect cutting-edge technology or flashy finishes. There’s a certain comfort in the simplicity, actually, and the bed was surprisingly good for a place in this price range. The en-suite bathroom worked perfectly fine, with decent water pressure (always a concern in these older London buildings).
Morning Routine
Breakfast happens in a cozy dining room downstairs, and while it’s not elaborate, it does the job well. The continental spread covers the basics — fresh pastries, decent coffee, and proper English breakfast items when you need something more substantial. I mean, you’re not going to write home about it, but it sets you up nicely for exploring the city. The staff here are genuinely helpful too, not just going through the motions.
Why Guests Love It
Look, BAYCROFT House won’t wow you with fancy amenities or Instagram-worthy interiors, but it gives you something more valuable — an authentic taste of residential London life. You’re staying where actual Londoners live, shopping at their local Waitrose, and discovering why Chiswick has such a devoted following. For travelers who want to experience London beyond the typical tourist bubble, this place makes perfect sense. Just manage your expectations accordingly — it’s solid, reliable accommodation that lets the neighborhood be the real star of your stay.

"Great crash pad for London"
Location. Very easy to find and on good transport links.
What could be improved: It looks tired & could do with some tlc. The curtains are ill fitted & the studio door doesn’t look very secure! It’s adequate but could be made to look much more loved!

"Very good"
The location is great, 10 min walk to the High Road and Chiswick Park tube station and the size of the apartment is also great, very spacious, good bathrooms, a balcony.. We didn't cook but the kitchen did look to have utensils
What could be improved: It's lacking a little TLC, needs more careful cleaning

"Very good"
The house is supernice. Good location & great surrounding. Walking distance to Sainbury's & Chiswick train station.
What could be improved: but some kitchen stuff such as kettle, dishes & microwave not even been clean up. It looks like was left untouched for checking more than a week.
Main bathroom with no shampoo & 2nd bathroom came with nothing

"Great place for a brief stay"
The apartment was 5 minutes walk from the high Street which made going for a meal and cocktails easy. Plenty of choice on the high street. The proximity to Kew Gardens worked perfectly for us.
What could be improved: The windows weren't locked, which spooked my friend. There was no parking, but we found a space on the street. Beds were quite firm.

"Great stay in Stockport"
Staff were great. My room was great but the WiFi was weak and I was there mainly to work. They upgraded me to a better room no problem. Each room had a lovely welcome back with toothbrush and biscuits and other stuff. Restaurant was closed for refurbishment. Big free car park
What could be improved: Nothing

"large apartment, good location, friendly & responsive hosts, great value for money"
Great apartment, much bigger than expected, had most amenities anyone would need for a few days.
Host was responsive, easy to communicate with. A family run business, all were polite and helpful!
What could be improved: There were a few marks on the carpet (obviously from some of the previous guests, not the owners). It was a minor aesthetic issue. Also, there was no corkscrew and kitchen could have 1-2 more usual stuff, but overall a minor detail.

"Comfy and clean"
Comfy and clean.
What could be improved: The lack of kitchen utensils.
The tv wasn’t good as we couldn’t get any channels to watch anything.
The toilet seat was cracked and broken.
Needed tea towels in the kitchen.

"A good property, but not finished and therefore did not have basic things like crockery, cutlery and bedding for all the"
Very clean and maintained
What could be improved: No microwave in the kitchen, we were a family of 5 and there weren’t enough Crocker and cutlery or bedding for all of us.

"Good Value for what you get"
The property is quite close to two tube stations. We had two single beds in one room, a bathroom & the double room had its own en-suite bathroom (both showers - no baths). Plus there was a sofa bed option to sleep 5.
The property had a tv, free WiFi, kitchen with table. It was much nicer that places we have stayed in before.
What could be improved: We thought we had found our go to place to stay for London, size of appt & location. Whilst it is clearly personal choice we found the memory foamed double mattress too firm. This is quite probably just us. The single mattress’ were less firm that the double ( same company but different model).
I am not sure how long the property has been let. You are in 1 of 9 apartments. There is parking but only for 2 or 3 cars. There is work being done in/around the garden. I hope the work is turning back garden area into more parking. You would then park around the back of the property & have space for more cars to park.
It would be good to know if all the large mattresses are the same model…. But as I said above this is probably just us
