Welcome London Mayfair
First Impressions
Walking into Welcome London Mayfair feels like discovering one of those well-kept secrets that locals don’t really want tourists to know about. The entrance on Maddox Street is understated — you could honestly walk past it if you weren’t paying attention. But that’s part of what I love about this place; it doesn’t need to shout about being a four-star hotel because everything inside speaks for itself.
The Mayfair Magic
You know what’s brilliant about staying here? You’re literally in the heart of London’s most expensive neighborhood, but you’re not paying those eye-watering Mayfair prices. I mean, you can walk to Bond Street in about three minutes, and Oxford Circus is right there when you need proper shopping. The area around Maddox Street has this lovely mix of high-end galleries and those tiny sandwich shops that somehow charge £8 for a bacon butty — but hey, that’s Mayfair for you.
The Room Experience
My room was compact but cleverly designed — they’ve really made the most of the space without it feeling cramped. The bed was actually one of the most comfortable I’ve had in London, which says something because I’ve stayed in quite a few places here. What impressed me most was the attention to detail; proper blackout curtains (essential for those summer mornings), a decent shower with good water pressure, and — this might sound silly — but hooks and surfaces where you actually need them.
Neighborhood Gems
Here’s something the travel guides won’t tell you: there’s a fantastic little pub called The Pilot just around the corner that serves proper fish and chips without the tourist markup. And if you’re into vintage shopping, there are some incredible spots tucked away in the surrounding streets that most visitors completely miss. The hotel staff actually gave me some great local recommendations — they clearly know the area well and aren’t just reciting from a script.
Why Guests Love It
Honestly, it comes down to location and value — two things that rarely go together in London. You’re staying in one of the city’s most prestigious areas without the pretentious attitude that often comes with it. The 9.1 rating makes perfect sense when you experience it firsthand; it’s not trying to be something it’s not, just delivering exactly what you need in a spot where you can actually explore London properly. Plus, there’s something refreshing about a place that focuses on getting the basics absolutely right rather than overwhelming you with unnecessary extras.
You'll need to let the property know in advance what time you'll arrive.
