Thistle Trafalgar – Leicester Square
First Impressions
Walking into Thistle Trafalgar – Leicester Square, you’re immediately struck by how this four-star hotel manages to feel both grand and approachable. The lobby has that classic London hotel vibe — polished marble floors, rich wood paneling, but without the stuffiness you sometimes get in this part of town. I mean, you’re literally steps from one of the world’s busiest tourist hubs, yet somehow they’ve created this calm bubble inside.
Location Perks
Honestly, the location is pretty hard to beat if you want to be in the thick of things in London. You can roll out of bed and be at the National Gallery in about three minutes, or catch a West End show without dealing with the Tube — most theaters are just a pleasant walk away. What I really appreciated though is that despite being so central, Whitcomb Street itself is relatively quiet, especially at night when the tourist crowds thin out.
The Room Experience
The room I stayed in was what you’d expect from a well-run four-star — clean, comfortable, with decent-sized windows that actually let in some light (not always a given in central London). The beds are solid, and you know what, the air conditioning actually works properly, which saved me during an unexpectedly warm October visit. Storage space is a bit tight, but then again, this is London — every square foot costs a fortune.
Dining and Amenities
The hotel’s restaurant serves up reliable British fare with some international options thrown in. It’s not going to change your life, but the full English breakfast hit the spot, and their evening menu covers the basics well enough. There’s also a bar that gets surprisingly lively in the evenings — lots of theater-goers stopping by for pre-show drinks, which creates a nice energy.
Why Guests Love It
What really works about this place is how it strikes that balance between being professionally run and genuinely welcoming. The staff seem to actually know the neighborhood — I got some great restaurant recommendations that weren’t just the obvious tourist traps. Plus, there’s something to be said for being able to walk back to your hotel after a night out instead of hunting for night buses or expensive Ubers. The 7.9 rating makes sense to me — it’s doing exactly what it promises without any major surprises, good or bad.
