The Park City Grand Plaza Kensington Hotel
First Impressions
The Park City Grand Plaza Kensington Hotel sits on a leafy stretch of Lexham Gardens, and honestly, it’s one of those places that surprises you. The Victorian terrace facade doesn’t scream “hotel” — which is actually refreshing when you’re staying in central London. Walking up, you get that residential feel that makes Kensington so appealing, but step inside and there’s definitely a proper hotel operation running here.
Location & Neighborhood
You know what I love about this spot? You’re genuinely in a neighborhood, not some tourist bubble. Lexham Gardens is this quiet tree-lined street where actual Londoners live, but you can walk to Earl’s Court tube in about five minutes. The Natural History Museum and V&A are basically around the corner — I mean, we’re talking a pleasant 10-minute stroll through some of London’s prettiest residential streets. There’s a decent pub called The Blackbird just down the road, and if you need groceries, there’s a Tesco Express that’s surprisingly well-stocked.
The Room Experience
This four-star property has that classic London hotel feel — rooms aren’t huge, but they’re thoughtfully laid out. The room I stayed in had these lovely period details mixed with modern touches that actually work together. The bed was properly comfortable (not always a given in London hotels), and the bathroom had decent water pressure. Some rooms face the garden square, which gives you a bit of greenery to look at — sort of nice when you’re in the middle of one of the world’s busiest cities.
Amenities & Service
The staff here genuinely seem to know what they’re doing. Check-in was smooth, and when I had questions about getting to a theatre in the West End, the front desk person actually gave me useful advice rather than just pointing me toward the tube map. There’s a restaurant on-site that serves decent British fare — nothing groundbreaking, but solid food when you don’t feel like venturing out. The breakfast spread covers all the basics, and they do a proper English breakfast if that’s your thing.
Why Guests Keep Coming Back
What sets this place apart is that balance between feeling like you’re staying somewhere authentic and having actual hotel services when you need them. You’re not fighting through crowds of tourists every time you leave your hotel, but you can still walk to major attractions without breaking a sweat. The pricing feels fair for what you get — especially considering you’re in Kensington rather than some dodgy area an hour from everything you want to see. It’s the kind of place where you can actually imagine living in London for a few days, rather than just surviving your visit.
