Overview
First Impressions
Walking into The Kensington Designer’s Retreat – Modern 1BDR Flat, you immediately get that “this is why I came to London” feeling. It’s one of those places where someone clearly thought about every detail — and I mean everything, from the lighting to how the coffee maker sits on the counter. The whole space feels like it belongs in a design magazine, but somehow manages to be actually livable.
Location & Neighborhood
You’re right in the heart of Kensington, which honestly couldn’t be better positioned if you tried. The Natural History Museum is literally a five-minute walk away, and you can stroll to Hyde Park whenever you need to escape the city buzz. What I really love about this spot is that you’ve got all these incredible restaurants tucked into the side streets — places locals actually go to, not just tourist traps. The Gloucester Road tube station is close enough that getting anywhere in London is stupidly easy.
The Space
This four-star flat is what modern London living should look like. The room flows seamlessly into the living area, and there’s this gorgeous kitchen that actually makes you want to cook (even if you’re just making morning coffee). Everything feels spacious despite being in central London — which, if you’ve apartment-hunted here, you know is basically a miracle. The windows let in tons of natural light, and the design strikes that perfect balance between sleek and comfortable.
Why It Works
What really sets this place apart is how it feels like staying at a stylish friend’s place rather than a typical rental. The bed is properly comfortable — not one of those rock-hard hotel mattresses that leave you aching. You’ve got proper storage space, fast WiFi, and all those little touches that make a difference when you’re staying more than just a night or two. The whole setup just works, you know?
Why Guests Love It
People rave about this place because it gives you that authentic London experience without sacrificing comfort. You’re living like a local in one of the city’s most beautiful neighborhoods, but with all the amenities and style you’d want on holiday. The 8.3 rating speaks for itself — guests keep coming back because it delivers exactly what it promises, which is rarer than you’d think in this price range.

"Lovely, plush, comfy cosy place, best for a longer break. Just be careful with the pre-arrival communications."
The property is beautiful. Very comfy. I was there for 5 days and very easy to settle and quite homely. I even enjoyed the very steep spiral staircase to the bathroom.
What could be improved: At times it felt a bit too much like this booking was too good to be true. The check in experience is a bit long winded, and uncomfortable. There’s is a lengthy verification form to complete externally from booking.com, which includes a sending a selfie of yourself with your passport, which I didn’t like. Followed by communication by email with Ghost-Hosts the agent, that included paying an additional £300 security deposit. Which hasn’t been returned yet. The key-box code they gave me was also wrong when I arrived which took over 2 hours to sort by email and WhatsApp. Once I was inside the property the rest of the stay was great, but the lead up was not straightforward.

"A great place"
We stayed here for the second time. The apartments have a great location, are very cozy, with a beautiful design and a quiet atmosphere – perfect for relaxation
What could be improved: However, this time we noticed some downsides: the cleanliness was not up to standard – we found black hair in various places, and the shower drain was clogged.
We hope these issues will be addressed, as we really like this place overall

"Apartment very good (10/10), the booking company Stay Beyond very bad (0/10)."
It's a beautifully decorated and fitted personal home in Kensington. Lovely paintings. Lovely place to stay. Very comfortable and stylish. Very reasonable cost. BUT BEWARE IT'S VERY DIFFICULT TO GET YOUR DEPOSIT BACK
What could be improved: The booking company. "Stay Beyond". An offshore based management company. They want ID verification, drivers licences with the owners of the driving licences holding them. I don't have a problem with that. Big contract. Not a problem. Lot of emails. You'll lose track of them. £300 cleaning and damage charge, to be refunded. Well, I paid that on 4th Nov 2024, stayed in the apartment 13-19 Nov 24, left apartment as we found it, clean, no litter, no breakages, still awaiting their "finance department" to refund £300, as of 12/12/24. I find this annoying. Companies insist you pay them way in advance then are slow to pay back. To be fair they do answer the phone, it's a UK number, but clearly transfers abroad and is answered by polite US accented staff. But they should treat the customer as they treat us. I have phoned them several times about the refund, they keep fobbing me off by saying they will remind the finance department.
UPDATE 26/12/24. Still no refund, I have not heard from Stay Beyond.
UPDATE 04/01/25. STILL NO REFUND, NO COMMUNICATION FROM STAY BEYOND OR BOOKING.COM CUSTOMER SERVICE.

"Exceptional"
I had a lot of trouble deciding on accommodations while planning a trip to England.
Accommodations close to the city center were expensive but had poor facilities. After much deliberation, I decided on this accommodation, which was much better than I expected.
It was close to Earl's Court Station and High Kensington Station, and there was a police station nearby, so I felt safe during my trip.
It was also quiet because it felt like a normal residential area, not a tourist attraction.
The hosts were kind and gave us detailed instructions, and the house was very warm and cozy.
The accommodation was even very beautiful.
If I come to London again, I will choose this accommodation again without hesitation.

"Do not book this stay."
The property itself is lovely, very homely although there was no curtain or blind in the bathroom, just a net so when the light is on in there, everyone outside can see you in the bath, shower or on the loo. A blind would definitely be helpful as I ended up having to shower in the dark.
What could be improved: This property is run by a management company which I didn’t realise when I booked. Communication is awful, they insist on you sending them selfies with your passport and you have to pay a £300 deposit which still hasn’t been returned to me 4 weeks later. I wish I’d clocked this as I wouldn’t have booked had I known. It took me about 4 emails to work out how to get into the property, they don’t answer the phone and are now ignoring my requests for my money back. DO NOT BOOK

"Overall good"
What could be improved: The windows are not isolated well and the temperature in the apartment is decreasing if it is too cold outside.
