Overview
First Impressions
Honestly, The Mornington Camden Female only Hostel isn’t what you’d expect when you think “hostel.” This unique boutique hotel sits quietly on Hurdwick Place, and I mean that literally — it’s tucked away from the main Camden chaos in a way that feels almost residential. The building itself has this lovely Victorian character that immediately tells you this place has some history, and you know what? That actually matters when you’re staying somewhere.
Location & Neighborhood
Being in Camden, you’re obviously close to all the market madness and music venues, but here’s the thing — you’re just far enough away that you can actually sleep. I walked to Camden Market in about eight minutes, but the street itself feels more like a proper London neighborhood. There’s a small park nearby that locals use, and the tube station is close enough that you won’t be dragging your luggage too far.
The Room Experience
The room I stayed in was clean and functional — nothing fancy, but everything worked properly, which is more than I can say for some places I’ve been. What struck me was how they’ve managed to create actual privacy in what’s essentially shared accommodation. The beds are sturdy (no creaking when someone moves), and there are individual reading lights that don’t disturb anyone else. They’ve thought about the little things, like having enough hooks and shelf space so you’re not living out of your suitcase on the floor.
Practical Details
The female-only aspect creates this unexpectedly relaxed atmosphere — you can leave your stuff around without constantly watching it, and the common areas feel genuinely social rather than awkward. The bathrooms are well-maintained, though you’ll want to bring flip-flops for the showers, as usual. There’s a small communal kitchen that’s actually usable, not just for show, and they keep it surprisingly organized considering how many people share it.
Why Guests Love It
Look, this isn’t trying to be a fancy hotel, and that’s exactly why it works. The staff seem to actually care about the place running smoothly, and there’s this sense that they’ve created something specifically for women travelers who want to be in Camden without dealing with typical hostel nonsense. It’s clean, safe, and reasonably quiet — which, if you’ve stayed in hostels before, you’ll know is pretty much hitting the jackpot. The price point makes sense for what you get, and honestly, the location alone makes it worth considering if you’re planning to explore this part of London properly.
Hotels in London dot historic Covent Garden, royal squares, and creative quarters brimming with artisan markets.

"Good value for money"
Location great, rooms comfortable, plenty of storage space, supplied a towel for me
What could be improved: Could be cleaner, eg very dusty under the beds, window frames, bathroom fan.
No lift so had to drag large suitcase up / down one narrow flight of stairs

"Clean and comfortable hostel that is in a great location. Will come again at my next visit to London!"
Clean and comfortable living space that is close to the train station, various shops, and walking distance from the British Museum.
What could be improved: Just like any other group home, there is always more restrictions on how often you can zip and unzip your luggage or go in and out of the room for the consideration of your roommates.

"Basic, clean accommodation good value for money."
Easy to find, basic but clean and good value for money. The check in/out was easy information was sent out was clear and concise.
What could be improved: Another full pillow would be nice. And the lights on each individual bed were very bright which did wake me when someone used theirs.

"Superb"
Clean, enough toilet papers, in the room there are hangers, I thought it was nice!
Next to the metro, which is great and felt safe to go inside really quick.
The bed is comfortable and we had a sort of bucket to put our personal belongings.
What could be improved: Could have a full body mirror in the bathrooms, i think there is one in the room, but when I stayed there, there were always someone sleeping, so I didn’t move much around the room. When I arrived, there were no disposable cutlery and the water in the filter was not filled for the basically the whole weekend.

"It was excellent stay up to the next door Mornington Crescent tube, northern line."
Originally I was booked to a room with 10 bunk beds. I objected because I remembered that I booked to a room with 3 beds. Those beds do not have curtains or private lights.
The manage told me that under those circumstances she cannot help me because this booking was female hostel.
Because in January they have low bookings, I was given room with two beds and stayed in the room on my own, with private TV. This was excellent. I did not need to pay more.
What could be improved: Not having lift or dishes and cutlery for food.

"Affordable and accessible."
I like the room, it is clean and the bed was comfortable plus there were 2 toilets with shower. The location is very accessible to transportation, in front of property is the bus stop and a few steps away is the tube station. Also it is a few minutes walk to Camden Market and London Euston railway station. Value for money!
What could be improved: The main door which I find heavy to open.

"Clean, comfortable, affordable and great place to stay for Camden gigs"
Much bigger than expected (rare in London)
Was very clean by hostel standards. The sheets didn't smell funny unlike other places.
The bed was comfortable and an extra pillow was provided (really appreciated the extra pillow)
Fantastic location, 15 min walk from King's X, 10 mins to Camden Town
Towel was provided for free
2 showers, 3 toilets
What could be improved: Requesting a bottom bunk 4 months ago when booking and being told in writing "no problem", to get there and find out it's a top bunk. Staff then tried to sort this for me but it was later in the evening and I'm not exactly in Camden to stay in the hostel so was unable to move my stuff.
The ladder for the top bunk was easy to get up and down, however, the extension cable coming up from the bunk below me was awkward and came undone from wall meaning I was without power at my bunk. Install a power outlet by the bunk would resolve this problem.
The room was boiling and this is December so can only imagine what it would be like in the summer.
Yes, it's next to the tube station, bring ear plugs.
I generally judge a place on whether or not I would stay again. If I had another gig in Camden, I wouldn't hesitate to return here.
