The Heart of London
First Impressions
The Heart of London sits in one of those Georgian terraces that makes Greenwich feel like a village within the city. When I first walked up to the entrance on Armitage Road, I honestly wasn’t sure what to expect — the building has this understated elegance that doesn’t scream “hotel” but rather whispers “well-kept secret.” The lobby feels more like stepping into a thoughtfully curated home than your typical four-star property.
The Greenwich Advantage
Here’s what I love about this location — you’re in Greenwich, which means you get all the perks of being in London without the chaos of Central London pricing and crowds. The Cutty Sark is literally a ten-minute walk away, and you know what? So is Greenwich Market with its weekend buzz. The DLR station is close enough that getting into Canary Wharf or connecting to the Tube network is actually pretty straightforward.
The Room Experience
My room had this perfect balance of modern comfort and period charm — high ceilings, original features, but thankfully updated plumbing and heating. The bed was genuinely comfortable (not just hotel-brochure comfortable), and I appreciated the little touches like proper tea-making facilities and decent Wi-Fi throughout. The ensuite was compact but well-designed, which is pretty much what you’d expect in a converted Georgian building.
Dining and Amenities
The ground-floor restaurant serves solid British fare with a modern twist — I mean, it’s not going to win any Michelin stars, but the Sunday roast was honestly better than I expected. Breakfast runs the full gamut from continental to full English, and they don’t rush you out the door, which I always appreciate. There’s also parking available, which in London is basically like finding gold.
Why Guests Love It
What really sets The Heart of London apart is how it captures that neighborhood feel while still delivering proper hotel service. The staff actually know the area — they’ll point you toward the best riverside walk or tell you when the weekend markets are worth your time. It’s the kind of place where you feel like you’re staying somewhere authentic rather than just another hotel room, and honestly, that’s getting harder to find in London these days.
