Overview

First Impressions

The Grand “Old Boy” – Marylebone – by Frankie Says caught me off guard in the best possible way. I mean, with a name like that, you’re expecting something either completely pretentious or totally tongue-in-cheek — and honestly, it leans into the latter beautifully. This four-star spot sits right in the heart of London’s Marylebone, and from the moment you walk in, there’s this playful energy that feels refreshingly different from your typical boutique hotel.

The Marylebone Advantage

Location-wise, you’ve really hit the jackpot here. Marylebone is one of those neighborhoods that locals actually hang out in — not just tourists rushing between monuments. You’re a proper walk from Oxford Street’s chaos, but close enough that you can pop over when you need to. What I love is how you can grab coffee at independent spots along Marylebone High Street, then wander through Regent’s Park when you need some green space. The area has this village-y feel that makes you forget you’re in central London.

The Room Experience

My room had this clever mix of classic British elements with contemporary twists that didn’t feel forced. The design team clearly had some fun here — there are nods to the “Old Boy” theme without going full boarding school cliché. What actually impressed me most was the attention to practical details: proper bedside lighting for reading, decent storage space, and a bathroom that doesn’t require acrobatics to use the shower.

Food and Social Spaces

The restaurant downstairs captures that same playful spirit as the rest of the hotel. They’ve got this modern British menu that doesn’t take itself too seriously — think elevated pub favorites alongside some more adventurous options. I had dinner there twice during my stay, which honestly says something since I usually prefer exploring the neighborhood. The bar area becomes quite lively in the evenings, attracting a good mix of hotel guests and locals who’ve discovered the spot.

Why Guests Love It

Here’s what sets this place apart: it’s got personality without being gimmicky. The staff genuinely seem to enjoy working here, which creates this relaxed atmosphere throughout the hotel. You know what? Sometimes you want a hotel that makes you smile rather than just impresses you. The Grand “Old Boy” manages to be sophisticated enough for business travelers while keeping that sense of fun that makes leisure stays memorable. With solid ratings reflecting consistent service, it’s become one of those places that frequent London visitors actually request by name.

To book hotel in London for fashion week buzz, travelers reserve early to pair Westminster sunrise walks with evening pub rituals.

"Stay in a movie set"
Gorgeous details in each room! Very lovely to stay at!
What could be improved: There was some furniture that was absolutely destroyed just sitting next to the table but nothing we couldnt work around! Just worth a note to people renting, steep tight turning stairs.

"Good but could have been better..."
The location was amazing! The house was decorated smartly with a great library of books. We were quite comfy and would recommend staying here. There were six of us and we had plenty of space. The area was quiet and had some great pubs and coffee shops nearby. Would love to rate it a 10, but can't based on the need for some TLC.
What could be improved: On day two we noticed that the refrigerator was not working, so notified the hosts via text message. They were very prompt to respond and told us they would contact maintenance to resolve the issue. The next evening, after no word from them or maintenance, I messaged again to request an update and again they were quite to respond, but nothing ever happened. We brought leftovers home on a couple of occasions, but ended up throwing them out. On day three the shower head popped off and water went spewing everywhere. I went to the local hardware store and bought a new shower head and some water pumps ($27BP) and fixed it. I mentioned this to the host in a text and from then on it was crickets - they completely ghosted me and never responded to another message. Also, the shower curtain was about a foot too short, so every time one of us took a shower the floor got soaked and the dryer would take over 2 hours to dry one towel, so we hung towels (one each for the entire week) up all week.

"Great location and super easy to check in and out!! Great stay!"
It was a step back in time. We love antiques and books so it was perfect for us!
What could be improved: The staircase needs some attention. Not sure who owns it up to the property but it needs attention.

"The apartment was a perfect base to explore London!"
The location was great and the apartment was very clean and well stocked. It was very nicely decorated as well. We appreciated the room to spread out as a family after a day of touring.
What could be improved: There was a gap of about 6 inches between the bottom of shower curtain and the top of the bathtub, making it impossible to not get water out of the tub when showering. The floor was slippery and potentially dangerous after every shower as one got out until it could be cleaned up. This could be avoided with a longer shower curtain. Everything else was wonderful though!

"Interesting time capsule in a fantastic location. Great host!"
Fantastic location near Oxford Circus making it really easy to get to a lot of central London sites. The place was very much as pictured and seems like a real time capsule. The host was very communicative and check-in/out was very smooth.
What could be improved: With all of the antiques, there is a bit of a musty smell, but nothing overpowering. The only other strange bit was that the refrigerator can only be accessed if the kitchen door is closed.

"Lovely house for those who prefer charm over comfortt"
location and charming atmosphere were very nice
What could be improved: low in maintenance (lights not working, loose door knobs, sewering not working great), would not take much to do to get this fixed.

"Enjoyable visit to London"
Unfortunately the Grand Old Boy we booked for our visit had an issue with the boiler prior to our arrival, so the host moved us to another property of theirs so I cannot comment on this property however ‘Frankie’ was quick to sort out alternative accommodation for us that suited our needs and very very professional and on hand during out visit so service was top notch.

"Great for family with teenagers"
The location was great and furnished beautifully. The kids each had their own areas to relax in, which is important on vacation! So glad to have found it!
What could be improved: Only issue was that the wifi didn't make it all the way to the back room. If the router can be moved so that the whole apartment has access, or a booster is added, that would be great!
