Overview
First Impressions
The Flamingo sits on a quiet stretch of Saint Paul’s Road in Islington, and honestly, you might walk right past it if you’re not paying attention. It’s one of those understated four-star places that doesn’t need flashy signage to prove itself — the kind of spot that feels more like a well-kept secret than a typical hotel. The Victorian facade blends seamlessly with the neighborhood’s residential vibe, which I actually found refreshing after dealing with some of London’s more imposing chain properties.
The Neighborhood Charm
What really sold me on this place was its location in Islington — you’re genuinely staying in a proper London neighborhood rather than some touristy bubble. There’s a brilliant little coffee shop about two minutes’ walk away, and the area has that lived-in feel where you’ll see locals walking their dogs and chatting outside the corner shops. Angel tube station is close enough that getting into central London doesn’t feel like a mission, but you’re far enough out that you can actually hear yourself think in the evenings.
The Room Experience
My room was on the second floor — nothing massive, but cleverly designed in a way that made the space feel bigger than it probably was. The bed was properly comfortable (you know how hit-or-miss hotel beds can be), and there was actually decent storage space, which matters when you’re living out of a suitcase. The bathroom was compact but functional, with one of those rainfall showers that actually works rather than just dribbling water on your head.
Daily Rhythms
Breakfast happens in a cozy ground-floor space that feels more like someone’s dining room than a hotel restaurant. They do a solid English breakfast if that’s your thing, but I was impressed they also had some lighter options that didn’t feel like afterthoughts. The staff genuinely seemed to remember guests’ preferences after a day or two, which is something you don’t always get at larger places. There’s no on-site parking, but honestly, you don’t need a car in this part of London anyway.
Why Guests Love It
The Flamingo works because it doesn’t try too hard — it’s just a well-run, comfortable place with staff who actually seem to care about what they’re doing. The 8.9 rating makes sense when you experience the attention to detail, like how they remember your name at reception or the fact that the WiFi actually works properly throughout the building. It’s the sort of place where you feel like you’re staying somewhere special without paying through the nose for unnecessary frills.

"Gorgeous, clean, spacious flat - a must stay in Islington!"
Everything was perfect. The location was lovely - a peaceful part of Islington which is accessible to all parts of London with buses and the tube nearby. Lots of wine bars, restaurants, cafes, and a small supermarket within close walking distance. The space is so beautifully laid out and value for money is incredible for London. All amenities you’d need are provided and it felt like our home away from home. Communication was so easy. Can’t fault this place and have recommended it to friends. Thanks!

"We really enjoyed our stay, a great base for our London trip."
Elgin's flat is great. Light and airy with plenty of space for the three of us. The location was perfect for our trip, tube, overground and buses near-by to take you wherever you want to go. A short walk to so many great places too. We definitely would recommend. There's also a great outdoor space. There are extra little touches too like slippers, toiletries and a good selection of teas and coffee for you when you arrive that raises it above many places.
What could be improved: There wasn't much we didn't like at all. Just know that the steps down into the flat from the street are quite steep if that is a consideration.

"A great 2 bedroom flat in Islington. Very clean and comfortable"
The flamingo is a very comfortable 2 bedroom flat in Islington with a full kitchen and a lovely back garden. Very clean, roomy, and has smart TV’s in the bedrooms and a larger tv in the living area. The bathroom is small but more than adequate for a small family. The kitchen is fully stocked for cooking, quite roomy and bathed in natural light. We enjoyed eating our breakfast each morning at the table in the kitchen. The host offers free (Nespresso) coffee and tea. Milk and sugar are also supplied so no need to worry if you arrive late at night. The property is a five minute walk from the Highbury & Islington tube station and is a 15 minute walk to Emirates Stadium.
What could be improved: Nothing comes to mind.

"We would definitely stay there again! Wonderful flat and a very solicitous host."
The flat and the experience of being there for 9 days was excellent in most ways: a beautifully decorated flat, with all mod cons, good quality and comfortable furniture and beds, nice sheets, an excellent heating system, tea/coffee/milk supplied, liquid soap and moisturising cream in the kitchen, shower and basin, nice garden, and the host replies to any queries and solves any problem almost immediately.
What could be improved: The shower is over a bath so it can be quite slippery having a wash or getting out of the shower. It would be much safer to have handrails in the shower cubicle.
The two lamps over the bed in one of the rooms were loose and seemed not to work, the host offered to have them replaced but I got them to work and preferred not to have an electrician in the flat to sort that. A minor hitch, but could have been sorted out before we moved in.
The flat was very clean on the whole, and I dont give it full mark on that because a couple of shelves in the bathroom cupboard had some toothpaste stuck to them, which is not too serious considering the overall state of the flat when we moved in.
