The Dixon, Tower Bridge, Autograph Collection
First Impressions
The Dixon, Tower Bridge, Autograph Collection sits on a quieter stretch of Tooley Street, and honestly, you might walk right past it if you weren’t looking — which is actually part of its charm. The building used to be a Victorian courthouse, and they’ve kept that serious brick facade while completely transforming the inside into something quite striking. When you step through the doors, there’s this immediate sense that you’re somewhere with real history, not just another cookie-cutter hotel.
Location & Neighborhood
You’re in Southwark here, which means you’re south of the Thames but still ridiculously close to everything that matters. Tower Bridge is literally a five-minute walk — I mean, you can see it from some of the upper floors. What I love about this spot is that you’re close enough to Borough Market to grab proper coffee and pastries in the morning, but far enough from the tourist crowds that you can actually breathe. The London Bridge station is right there too, so getting around is dead simple.
The Room Experience
The room I stayed in had these gorgeous high ceilings — a leftover from the building’s courthouse days. They’ve done something clever with the design, mixing the original Victorian features with really modern touches. The beds are properly comfortable (none of that rock-hard nonsense), and the bathroom actually has decent water pressure, which you know can be hit-or-miss in older London buildings. The windows are big enough that you get plenty of natural light, though the blackout curtains work brilliantly when you need them.
Dining & Amenities
The restaurant downstairs serves British food that doesn’t make you roll your eyes — they actually know what they’re doing. I had their fish and chips one evening, and it was genuinely good, not just “good for hotel food.” The cocktail bar has this cozy, almost speakeasy feel to it, perfect for unwinding after a day of walking around the city. There’s also a gym if you’re into that sort of thing, though honestly, with all the walking you’ll do in London, you might not need it.
Why Guests Love It
This four-star property gets the balance right between character and comfort. You’re not paying five-star prices, but you’re getting thoughtful touches and genuine personality that a lot of more expensive places lack. The staff actually seem to care about what they’re doing — they’ll give you proper recommendations for the area, not just the usual tourist traps. It’s the kind of place where you can imagine staying for a week without going stir-crazy, which says something about both the location and the hotel itself.
You'll need to let the property know in advance what time you'll arrive.
