Overview
First Impressions
The Rockwell East-Tower Bridge sits right in the heart of Tower Hamlets, and honestly, the location alone makes it worth considering. When I first walked up to the building on Mansell Street, I wasn’t blown away by some grand entrance — but that’s actually part of its appeal. This four-star hotel feels more like a well-kept secret than a flashy tourist magnet, which I mean, is refreshing in London.
Location & Getting Around
You’re literally a few minutes’ walk from Tower Bridge — and I’m talking about an actual pleasant stroll, not some tourist-trap gauntlet. The Tower of London is right there too, but what I really appreciated was how easy it is to hop on the DLR or catch a bus into the City. Aldgate East station is close enough that you won’t be dragging your luggage for miles, which anyone who’s navigated London with a suitcase will appreciate.
The Room Experience
The room I stayed in was compact but thoughtfully designed — you know how London hotels can feel cramped, but this one actually uses its space well. The bed was comfortable (not amazing, but solid), and the bathroom had decent water pressure, which honestly matters more than people admit. The windows aren’t huge, but you get enough natural light, and the soundproofing is pretty good considering you’re in central London.
Dining & Amenities
There’s no on-site restaurant, which might disappoint some people, but I actually found this worked in my favor. The area has some great pubs and cafes within walking distance — including a fantastic Indian place on Commercial Road that locals seem to love. The hotel does offer a decent continental breakfast setup, and the coffee is better than you’d expect from a mid-range place.
Why Guests Love It
What really sets Rockwell East-Tower Bridge apart is that it feels authentic to the neighborhood rather than trying to be something it’s not. The staff genuinely seem to know the area well — they gave me directions to places that weren’t just the obvious tourist spots. For the price point and that 8.6 rating, you’re getting solid value without paying for unnecessary frills. It’s the kind of place where you sleep well, start your day properly, and spend your time exploring London rather than hanging around the hotel lobby.

"Comfortable and pleasant stay."
We loved the apartment which was very spacious, clean and comfortable. The location was the best for us and we could easily reach our destinations either by bus or the train. The staff in general were friendly polite and helpful!
What could be improved: We experienced some miscommunication issues with some of the staff at the check in process.

"Perfect apartment in the East!."
The staff were welcome, helpful and friendly. The apartment was lovely, clean and very big. The bed and bedding were lush and there was sufficient storage as well as a hairdryer, dishwasher, washing machine, oven and microwave 😊 It was additionally well stocked!
They also very kindly hold your luggage pre check-in and post check-out. There's place to sit and relax in the reception and a small bar. Location is perfect, several stations a short 5/6 mins walk.
I would highly recommend and definitely stay again.
What could be improved: This is more a personal preference, but the pillows were very soft. I prefer them a bit more stiff 😁 There really isn't much not to like, the place was lovely!

"Just fab!"
Great location. The room was gorgeous with a lovely kitchenette, a tv which pivoted off the wall for ease of watching on the bed and a dining table. There was also a lovely robe in the bathroom too. I’d have loved to stay longer and would go back.

"Everything you need"
The hotel is located perfectly next to the Tower bridge. Room itself was very spacious with fully equipped kitchen. The room was also clean and everything worked as they should.
What could be improved: Even though the hotel itself was very quiet, there was railroad next to the hotel which might be noisy sometimes but didn’t bother us at all.
