Overview

First Impressions

Residential Quarters, General Gordon Square doesn’t try to wow you with a flashy lobby — and honestly, that’s what I loved about it right away. This apartment-style hotel sits quietly on Woolwich New Road in Greenwich, feeling more like you’re staying at a well-appointed friend’s place than a typical hotel. The four-star property has this understated confidence that you only get when a place knows exactly what it’s doing.

The Space

Each room here is actually a proper apartment with its own kitchenette — not one of those tiny hotel fridges with a microwave on top, but an actual space where you can make coffee the way you like it. The layouts are thoughtfully designed, with separate living areas that give you room to spread out after a day of exploring. You know what really impressed me? The attention to storage — there are actually places to put your stuff without living out of a suitcase.

Greenwich Neighborhood

The location is brilliant if you want to experience London beyond the tourist bubble. You’re walking distance to Greenwich Park and the Royal Observatory, but you’re also in a neighborhood where actual Londoners live and work. The nearby DLR station connects you to Canary Wharf and central London easily enough, though I found myself spending more time exploring the local pubs and the weekend markets than rushing into the city center.

Daily Life Here

What sets this place apart is how it lets you settle into a routine. There’s parking available (which, let me tell you, is worth its weight in gold in London), and the kitchenette means you can grab groceries from the local shops and actually use them. The building has this calm, residential feel — you’ll hear neighbors coming and going, but it’s the comfortable sounds of a real neighborhood, not the chaos of a busy hotel corridor.

Why Guests Love It

The 9.2 rating makes perfect sense once you’ve stayed here. It’s not about fancy amenities or over-the-top service — it’s about getting the fundamentals absolutely right. The apartments are immaculately maintained, the staff knows the area inside and out, and everything just works the way it should. I mean, when’s the last time you stayed somewhere and didn’t have to ask for extra towels or figure out how to work the shower? This place gets those details sorted so you can focus on actually enjoying your time in Greenwich.

"A good place to return to after a tiring day outside."
A great place to stay in London. It’s down the road from Woolwich Station on the Elizabeth Line (10 mins walk) and even nearer from Woolwich Arsenal Station (5 mins walk). With a direct service from Woolwich Arsenal to St Pancras International Station, it’s so very convenient for tourists travelling by Eurostar to other cities in Europe. Ferry service direct to London city using Uber boat is available at Woolwich Pier and it is not far from Woolwich Station (7 mins walk). The ferry brings you all the way to the heart of the city, past Tower Bridge and the Parliament. Extremely convenient shopping from Tesco (1 min walk) as well as very affordable goods from the flea market near the station (5 mins walk). Low-priced shoes to buy as well from Clark’s outlet store nearby. The apartment is up a flight of narrow stairs, but we’re grateful for the host, Philip, in helping us with some of the luggage. It’s spacious for a family of 3, and can accommodate up to 6 persons. A mobile phone is provided free of charge to share mobile data to access the internet which could be brought out of the house into the city. We appreciate our kind hosts for this helpful provision. Thank you, Philip and Jacqui, for hosting us. Thank you also for your thoughtfulness in buying us fruits and most of all, thank you for providing us with a clean, well- equipped and very well-kept apartment.

The host was very friendly and available for anything that we might need. They welcomed us and showed us everything around the house. The location was really good, with a huge Tesco very close.
What could be improved: I loved everything!

"Great place, great stay."
Me and my family had a great stay. The host Philip is very welcoming, and it's evident that great care is put into making sure the guests have a good experience, from the big things (cleanliness, etc.) to the small (you've got your hairdryer, your toaster, iron and board, coffee maker... it doesn't sound like much when you point it out, but sometimes these simple things are overlooked and not provided, and then you feel their absence). We had a great stay, very comfortable. There were 4 of us so the two bedrooms were perfect for us. If you have more people with you there's also a sofa bed in the living room which I guess can sleep one or two more. There are two common areas, one being the living room and the other being the kitchen. The latter is well stocked with utensils so you can prepare anything you would reasonably make at home. The apartment is very well located w.r.t. public transportation, about 2 minutes on foot from the DLR station and 4 from the local Elizabeth line entrance. Close proximity to the Elisabeth line is especially useful as it means you can reach just about any destination in the city reasonably quickly and without too much issue (e.g. it only takes about 25 minutes to go Paddington). Yes Woolwich itself is a bit far from the city centre, but if you take advantage of London's excellent public transportation network, that really doesn't matter. There's also a large Tesco supermarket almost in front of the apartment so you don't have to go far to get your groceries. This was perfect for us since we would head out in the morning, come back in the evening, do some shopping for dinner and then eat in, so we could take it easy and relax a bit before bedtime. Woolwich itself, from what I can gather, is mostly a residential and commercial district, although we didn't really explore it much since our itinerary was very packed.
What could be improved: To be honest the apartment exceeded my expectations so I really don't have anything to complain about. The only minor criticism I could make would be that the windows were a bit grimy from the outside. I can see them being very hard to clean due to how they're built however, and again I want to stress this is absolutely nothing major.

"Great place for a group trip to London"
Very good location - 5min walk to 2 underground / train stations (Woolwich and Woolwich Arsenal), meaning you can get to central London in 25 minutes. Right across the street from a huge Tesco, with several bars and restaurants in the area as well. Spacious 2-level apartment, with a living room, 2 separate bedrooms (comfy beds!), clean bathroom and a well-equipped kitchen. Friendly & helpful owner who was kind enough to accommodate an early check-in. Overall great value for money if booking for 3-4 people.
What could be improved: No issues whatsoever, would highly recommend this place.
