Overview
First Impressions
Walking up to President Hotel on Guilford Street, you get that immediate sense this is one of those classic London townhouse hotels that knows exactly what it’s doing. The Georgian facade fits right into the Bloomsbury streetscape — honestly, if you weren’t looking for it, you might walk right past. Inside, it’s got that comfortable, lived-in feel of a proper three-star property that doesn’t try to be something it’s not.
Location & Neighborhood
Here’s what I love about this spot — you’re smack in the middle of literary London without the tourist chaos. Russell Square is literally a two-minute walk, and the British Museum? Maybe five minutes if you’re dawdling. The Camden location puts you within easy reach of King’s Cross (brilliant for day trips), but you’re tucked away on a quieter residential street. There’s a Sainsbury’s Local around the corner, which honestly saved me more than once when I needed snacks or forgotten toiletries.
The Room Experience
My room was on the third floor — compact but cleverly laid out, as you’d expect from a converted Georgian building. The shower had proper water pressure (always a gamble in older London hotels), and the heating actually worked well during my November stay. Sure, you’re not getting floor-to-ceiling windows or marble bathrooms, but everything you need is there and it’s genuinely comfortable.
Practical Perks
The breakfast situation is pretty straightforward — continental spread with decent coffee and fresh pastries. Nothing fancy, but it’ll fuel you for a day of sightseeing without breaking the bank. What really impressed me was how helpful the front desk staff were with restaurant recommendations. They pointed me toward a brilliant little Indian place on Lamb’s Conduit Street that I never would’ve found otherwise. There’s no on-site parking, but honestly, you don’t need a car here — Russell Square tube station is practically next door.
Why Guests Love It
You know what makes President Hotel work? It gets the balance right between location, comfort, and price. You’re staying in one of London’s most cultured neighborhoods without paying Covent Garden prices. The building has character — creaky floorboards and all — but the essentials are spot-on. It’s the kind of place where you can drop your bags, grab the tube anywhere in the city, and come back to a quiet street for a proper night’s sleep. For exploring London on foot while having excellent transport links, this little corner of Bloomsbury is pretty much perfect.
Hotel in London reservations surge before major festivals, so smart travelers lock in skyline rooms months ahead.

"Our Favourite London Hotel"
Vegan sausages for breakfast!
What could be improved: Missing a full length mirror in the room

"A bit expensive."
Good for our expectations
What could be improved: The lift is too slow, and even the use of the card.

"The hotel was great and in a great location. It is a popular hotel."
The buffet breakfast was great. There were lots of options. The hotel is in a great location, very close to the Russell Square Tube station. Staff were very helpful.
What could be improved: Well, it was very busy and crowded at the breakfast buffet and in the lobby. Many tour groups use this hotel. It is obviously very popular with tours and tourists.

"A good mid range option in a great location and on direct tube line from Heathrow, reasonably priced for central London."
Great location, decent size bedroom
What could be improved: The decor in the bar/restaurant left a lot to be desired - had a weird 1970s function room vibe.

"Perfectly located, clean and comfortable. I would stay again."
The location was ideal for my visit to lectures at Queen Square.
What could be improved: The bedroom was really hot, had to sleep with the window open (glad it could open!), which meant for an early wake-up, thanks to the scaffolders clanging about at 7am on the neighbouring building!

"Brilliant Hotel, Great Value for Money and a Comfortable Stay"
Firstly, the location of the hotel was excellent. As mentioned earlier, it was much better than our expectations - the reception area was lovely and the staff very friendly. On entering our rooms, we were very pleasantly surprised as, although small, it had everything we required, spotlessly clean and the shower was superb. We received daily servicing which was normal and (as required in many hotels) we did not have to request. The breakfasts were excellent and such a plentiful choice. Again, the staff was helpful and so friendly. I have stayed in many hotels in London and this hotel, for the price paid, was one of the best and without doubt, I would certainly return. Also, may I add, that it was bitterly cold outside but the hotel was extremely cosy which was very, very welcome. I was travelling with three friends and each one of us felt exactly the same and agreed that it was excellent value and a super hotel.
What could be improved: Just a slight detail, - due to the hotel being so busy, on two occasions, we had to wait on some of the breakfast dishes being refilled e.g mushrooms, scrambled and fried eggs. It would be a good idea to have a member of staff monitoring this and refilling as and when required as opposed to guests having to make staff aware of shortages and await refills whilst food already on their plates was becoming cool. However, this was not a fault, merely a suggestion.

"Very good"
The room was clean, and you've plenty of choice for breakfast. The location is perfect to get around sights.
Walking distance to Oxford Street for shopping
What could be improved: The staff didn't give you more coffee and milk when cleaning the room, so you will need to ask
