Notting Hill House
First Impressions
Notting Hill House sits quietly on Pembridge Gardens, and honestly, you could walk right past it if you weren’t looking carefully. The Georgian townhouse doesn’t scream for attention — which is exactly what makes it feel special. I mean, this is Notting Hill we’re talking about, where the whole vibe is about understated charm rather than flashy hotel signs.
Location & Neighborhood
You’re literally a two-minute walk from Portobello Road, and I actually prefer staying on this quieter side street rather than being right in the thick of things. The four-star property puts you close enough to dive into the antique markets and weekend buzz, but far enough that you can escape when the crowds get overwhelming. Notting Hill Gate tube station is about five minutes away, which means central London is properly accessible without the tourist hotel prices of Covent Garden or Westminster.
The Room Experience
What surprised me most was how they’ve managed to keep the period character while actually making the rooms functional for modern travelers. My room had these lovely original moldings and a fireplace (non-working, but still charming), plus a decent-sized window that looked out onto the garden square. The bathroom was compact but well-designed — you know how these old buildings can be tricky with plumbing, but everything worked perfectly.
Dining & Amenities
The breakfast setup in their small restaurant area is nothing fancy, but they do a proper full English alongside continental options. What I really appreciated was their approach to service — it’s more like staying at a well-run guesthouse than a corporate hotel. There’s no spa or flashy amenities, but there’s something refreshing about a place that focuses on doing the basics really well rather than trying to be everything to everyone.
Why Guests Love It
This isn’t the place if you want a grand hotel experience with doormen and marble lobbies. But if you’re after that quintessential London neighborhood feeling — where you can grab coffee at a local café, browse through vintage shops, and actually feel like you’re living in the city rather than just visiting it — then Notting Hill House hits the mark. The 7.9 rating makes sense; it’s solidly good without being revolutionary, and sometimes that’s exactly what you need.
You'll need to let the property know in advance what time you'll arrive.
