Middle Eight – Covent Garden – Preferred Hotels and Resorts
First Impressions
The Middle Eight – Covent Garden – Preferred Hotels and Resorts sits right on Great Queen Street, and honestly, you’d almost miss it if you weren’t looking — which is part of its charm. This five-star boutique property feels more like stepping into a sophisticated friend’s place than a traditional luxury hotel. The entrance is understated but elegant, with this gorgeous Georgian facade that fits perfectly into the historic streetscape.
Location & Neighborhood
You’re basically in the heart of everything here in London. I mean, Covent Garden’s buzzing market is a two-minute walk, and you’ve got the Royal Opera House practically next door. What I love about this spot is that Great Queen Street itself is known for having some brilliant restaurants — you’re literally staying on one of London’s foodie strips. The British Museum is an easy stroll north, and Holborn station is close enough that getting anywhere in the city is actually pretty painless.
The Room Experience
The room design here is something else — they’ve managed to blend contemporary luxury with these wonderful period details. My apartment had these beautiful high ceilings and original Georgian windows, but everything else felt completely modern and comfortable. The beds are ridiculously comfortable (proper luxury linens), and the marble bathrooms have rainfall showers that you’ll want to spend way too much time in. Each space has this warm, residential feel rather than that sterile hotel vibe you sometimes get.
Dining & Social Spaces
The ground floor restaurant and bar area becomes this lovely social hub throughout the day. Breakfast is properly good — not just your standard hotel fare, but thoughtful dishes using quality ingredients. The evening atmosphere transforms the space into something quite special, with craft cocktails and a menu that actually makes you want to stay in rather than venture out (which, in Covent Garden, is saying something). The whole space has this intimate, almost residential club feeling that draws both guests and locals.
Why Guests Love It
What really sets Middle Eight apart is how it feels like a genuine London experience rather than a generic luxury stay. The staff actually know the neighborhood inside and out — they’ll point you toward the best pubs, suggest which shows are worth seeing, or recommend that little cheese shop around the corner. It’s the kind of place where you feel connected to the city rather than insulated from it. For travelers who want sophisticated comfort without the stuffiness, and a location that puts authentic London right at your doorstep, this place really delivers.
