The Landmark London
First Impressions
Walking into The Landmark London feels like stepping into a grand Victorian railway station — which, honestly, isn’t far from the truth since it was originally built as a hotel for Great Central Railway passengers in 1899. The soaring glass-roofed atrium with its towering palm trees immediately sets this five-star luxury hotel apart from your typical London accommodation. I mean, where else can you sip afternoon tea while gazing up at an eight-story winter garden right in the heart of Marylebone?
Location & Neighborhood
You’re perfectly positioned on Marylebone Road, literally a two-minute walk from Baker Street tube station — which makes getting anywhere in London ridiculously easy. What I love about this spot is that you’re close enough to Oxford Street for serious shopping, but tucked away in genteel Marylebone where you can actually breathe. The area has this lovely village feel with independent boutiques along Marylebone High Street and some of the city’s best gastropubs just around the corner.
The Rooms
The room I stayed in had those impossibly high ceilings that make you feel like British royalty, complete with original Victorian features alongside modern luxury touches. The marble bathrooms are genuinely impressive — deep soaking tubs and rainfall showers that actually work properly (you’d be surprised how rare that is in London). What struck me most was the attention to detail: Egyptian cotton linens, Nespresso machines, and windows that open properly for fresh air when you need a break from the perfectly calibrated climate control.
Dining & Amenities
The Winter Garden restaurant under that magnificent atrium serves surprisingly good Modern British cuisine — I wasn’t expecting much from hotel food, but the Sunday roast actually rivaled what you’d find at a proper gastropub. The spa downstairs feels like a hidden sanctuary with its swimming pool and treatment rooms, though I’d book treatments well in advance. There’s also valet parking if you’re brave enough to drive in central London, which is honestly a godsend in this part of town where street parking is basically mythical.
Why Guests Love It
What really sets The Landmark London apart is that perfect balance of historic grandeur and modern comfort — you get all that Victorian drama without sacrificing contemporary luxury. The staff genuinely seem to care about getting the details right, from remembering your name to ensuring your afternoon tea arrives at the perfect temperature. It’s the kind of place where you can feel appropriately posh for a special occasion, but still comfortable enough to relax after a long day of London sightseeing. Plus, that atrium never gets old — I found myself taking the long way through it every single time.
