Overview
First Impressions
Walking up to the Merit Kensington Hotel on Penywern Road, you’ll notice it’s actually spread across several Victorian townhouses that have been connected — which explains the slightly maze-like layout once you’re inside. It’s got that classic London red-brick charm, and honestly, the entrance feels more like stepping into someone’s elegant home rather than a typical hotel lobby. The staff greet you with genuine warmth, not that scripted hotel politeness you get elsewhere.
Location Perks
Here’s what I love about this spot — you’re genuinely in Kensington, not some touristy fringe area pretending to be. Earl’s Court tube station is maybe a three-minute walk, and you know what’s great? You can actually walk to the Natural History Museum and Victoria & Albert Museum without your feet killing you. The neighborhood has this lovely residential feel during the day, with proper cafés and local shops mixed in with the tourist stuff.
The Room Experience
The room I stayed in was compact but thoughtfully designed — very much London-sized, if you know what I mean. What struck me was how they’ve managed to fit everything you need without it feeling cramped. The bed was genuinely comfortable (I’m picky about mattresses), and the bathroom, while small, had surprisingly good water pressure. Some rooms overlook the quiet residential street, which means you’ll actually get decent sleep despite being in central London.
Dining and Daily Rhythms
The restaurant serves a solid breakfast spread that’ll set you up for a day of sightseeing — nothing fancy, but the coffee’s decent and they don’t rush you out. I mean, there’s something to be said for starting your morning without fighting crowds or hunting for a café that’s not a tourist trap. The evening bar area gets pleasantly busy with both guests and locals, which gives it a nice authentic vibe rather than that sterile hotel atmosphere.
Why Guests Love It
This four-star place works because it strikes that sweet spot between proper London location and reasonable value. You’re paying for the Kensington address and the character of those connected Victorian buildings, but you’re not getting gouged like you would at some of the bigger name hotels nearby. The service feels personal — staff actually remember your name and preferences, which honestly makes such a difference when you’re traveling. It’s the kind of place where you feel like you’re staying in London rather than just visiting it.

"Superb"
The hotel is at an excellent location with the underground around the corner and various food shops around. The staff were very helpful and nice.
What could be improved: The standard room is small however this is to be expected for London. Only issue to mention is that the AC sometimes makes a strange noise, we informed the receptionist who fixed it by arranging the temperature, however I feel the AC is a bit buggy, other than that nothing to complain about.

"Comfortable and relaxing."
We loved the location, so close to Earl’s Court station, which meant you could get into the centre of London very easily, to see the sights.
What could be improved: When we arrived our beds hadn’t been individually made, as requested at the time of booking and approved, rather as a kingsize bed. But this was easily and quickly resolved!

"Great location - only a few minutes walk from the tube. Fab room, staff lovely. Would recommend."
Stayed in a triple Deluxe. The room was spacious and spotless. The bath and shower were great and there was shower gel, shampoo, conditioner and body lotions provided, and a small TV. The bed was comfy.
What could be improved: The bed was comfortable but one side of the mattress seemed to sink and this bit needed to be avoided.

"Modern. Clean. Good location. Trouble free. Good value for money."
Good quality for the money
What could be improved: Nothing negative to report, got a little noisy in the morning to the rear of the property with children playing in nearby playground area but nothing unreasonable.

"Ignoring room options?"
Stayed here a few times whenever were in London. Close by to shops and tube station. Clean and comfortable. Staff in reception have been nice to talk to
What could be improved: Booking has room options that states if it has a bath or/or shower. I specifically booked the one with a bath. Got put into a room with a shower and no bath. No point in doing room options if you're just going to put a guest in any room! That's bad service!

"Very good"
Exceptional view and really comfortable room
What could be improved: The breakfast is disappointing. Not offering any coffee specialties (latte,…) just plain black coffee. The food is industrial. Irrelevant

"Good hotel"
I really enjoyed my stay at the Merit Kensington Hotel. The location is excellent — it’s just a 2-minute walk from the Underground Earl’s Court station, which makes getting around London incredibly easy. The area is full of supermarkets and restaurants, giving you plenty of choices right around the corner. Most importantly, the neighborhood feels very safe, even late at night. A great area to stay for comfort, convenience, and peace of mind.
The staff were nice but they needs some hospitality training
What could be improved: There were a few drawbacks during my stay. My room window faced a school, which caused very loud noise starting from 8 AM every day. The AC was blowing warm air, and even after making three complaints, nothing changed. The fridge in the room was also not cooling at all, and despite reporting it, I received no response. The room itself was quite small. Additionally, the £100 security deposit was not released at checkout and takes 24 hours to be refunded, which was inconvenient.

"Lovely hotel with nice rooms and friendly staff and 10/10 location. Overall 9/10"
The location was brilliant 2 minute walk to Earl’s Court station plenty of pubs and restaurants around in walking distance 20 min walk to natural history museum. The room was very nice with a very nice bathroom and nice bed.
What could be improved: Slightly loud at night however if window is open but just close the window and it’s fine.
