Overview
First Impressions
Maria sits tucked away on Dean Street in Soho, and honestly, you’ll probably walk past it twice before spotting the entrance. It’s one of those three-star places that doesn’t scream for attention — just a simple doorway that leads to a compact apartment-style setup on the fourth floor. The building itself has that slightly worn London charm you either love or find a bit rough around the edges.
Location & Neighborhood
Here’s what makes this place actually useful: you’re smack in the middle of London’s theater district. I mean, you can literally stumble out and catch a West End show without planning ahead. Wardour Street’s buzzing restaurants are maybe thirty seconds away, and if you need coffee at 7 AM, there’s a Pret down the block. The downside? Dean Street gets pretty lively at night, so light sleepers might want to pack earplugs.
The Space
This isn’t your typical hotel room — it’s more like borrowing someone’s London flat for a few nights. The apartment has a small kitchen area where you can actually make breakfast instead of paying £15 for hotel toast. The space feels cramped if you’re used to American-sized rooms, but it works fine for a couple who don’t mind bumping elbows occasionally. There’s a tiny seating area that’s perfect for planning your day over morning coffee.
Getting Around
Tottenham Court Road station is about a five-minute walk — not bad when you’re hauling luggage, though those stairs can be brutal during rush hour. What I really appreciated was how walkable everything felt once you’re settled in. Leicester Square, Covent Garden, even Oxford Street shopping — you can reach all of it on foot without feeling like you’re hiking across the city. Parking is basically impossible around here, so don’t even think about bringing a car.
Why Guests Choose It
Look, Maria isn’t going to wow anyone with fancy amenities or Instagram-worthy interiors. But if you want to stay in the heart of Soho without spending £300 a night, it actually delivers pretty solid value. The 7.7 rating makes sense — people seem to appreciate the location and the apartment-style setup, even if the space itself is nothing special. You’re paying for the postcode more than anything else, and sometimes that’s exactly what you need for a London trip.
Exploring London blends royal heritage, UNESCO landmarks, and vibrant neighborhoods glowing with golden-hour light.
Guest reviews
"Be aware, very noisy room late into the night."
Location. Clean, micro, fridge, bowls, plates, cutlery.
What could be improved: Extremely noisy with night club next door, thin walls, and very busy party street below window every night.....but you have been warned and we were too, from previous reviews, but decided to give it a go. Ear plugs were supplied, but the only ones that really work are those ones that can be moulded to your ears which we took with us.
We couldn't work out what was luxury about the "luxury" double room with shower. Room was very small and shower room extremely small. Very warm at night and noisy fan. Goodness knows what it's like in the summer!
These are not criticisms, just facts for consideration.
The big seller for the property was location, but if we were to stay in the area again, then we would choose somewhere else I'm afraid.

"It was an excellent stay and I would highly recommend the flat to anyone."
Quick responses from host
Location
Ease of check in
Plenty of towels
Roominess, etc
What could be improved: The only issue was that there was no dish cloth or dish towel for doing dishes.

"There are both ups & downs."
We liked that it was in SoHo & walking distance to so many things we wanted to see. We were happy with the space & cleanliness of the facilities. Also happy with the fan provided & ear plugs.
What could be improved: We did not like how warm it gets during the summer so we had to keep the fans on & the windows open to stay cool. However, with the windows open, it is nosier. It is LOUD every night of the week. I’m a deep sleeper & still was woken up multiple times. The ear plugs do work, but I worried about not hearing an alarm if I set one. The night I used the plugs I slept decently and the nights I didn’t use them I didn’t sleep well. So I most definitely do not recommend to a light sleeper.

"We had a lovely stay, very central and good value for the area. I would go again."
Nice airy clean apartment in a great location. Once I had the notification what number in Dean St it was easy to access.
What could be improved: The delay in not knowing the exact location caused anxiety. This maybe an overlook by the host.
There was no email the evening before or that morning. We spent a considerable time trying to find it on what we had been told unit 4 and PIN number on Dean Street. I rang but there was no reply. I then saw a notification on booking.com which had arrived in the afternoon for the correct number on Dean St. If the host preferred not to give me the number until late in the day it would have been nice to have known a text would be coming because I was beginning to wonder if the unit existed. Otherwise there was no problem with the host. It would not deter me from booking again with Maria

"Lovely clean and very central."
Very central, easy access to all the tubes and buses. As well as all the attractions.
I will definitely come back again. Was lovely.
What could be improved: In a very noisy street. So can’t sleep with the window open. But it was not unbearable.

"Good"
It was bigger than I expected and had everything I could need. It was pretty comfortable and incredibly central. Everything was well within walking distance.
What could be improved: It was very noisy! Unsurprising, but with pretty old style windows, not all of the noise was shut out.
You're right in the heart of everything and there are bars surrounding you and open until really late.
It wasn't an issue the first night, but seemed a bit louder the second night. Just be prepared and if you're not too light a sleeper, you'll be fine.
It was awkward getting the suitcase up the stairs, so if you're not very mobile, this absolutely isn't the place for you. Again, not really surprising for this type of building in this location.
