First Impressions
The London Croydon CR0 Guest House sits quietly on Midhurst Avenue, and honestly, you might walk past it if you’re not paying attention. It’s one of those places that doesn’t need flashy signage because the locals already know about it. The Victorian terrace house has this understated charm — clean white facade, neat front garden, and you can tell someone actually cares about the details here.
Location & Getting Around
Here’s what I love about staying in Croydon — you’re getting proper London access without the Central London prices. East Croydon station is maybe a 12-minute walk, and from there you’re looking at 15 minutes to Victoria or London Bridge. The neighborhood itself has this residential feel that’s quite nice actually, with tree-lined streets and the kind of local shops where the owners remember your face.
The Room Experience
My room was on the first floor, and I was pleasantly surprised by how spacious it felt. The owner has clearly put thought into the furnishings — nothing fancy, but everything works well together. The bed was properly comfortable (I’m picky about mattresses), and there’s decent storage space which you don’t always get in London accommodations. The Wi-Fi actually worked throughout the building, which sounds basic but you’d be amazed how many places get this wrong.
Daily Comforts
Breakfast happens in the ground-floor dining area, and it’s the kind of setup where you chat with other guests without feeling forced into conversation. The hosts serve a proper English breakfast — none of that continental nonsense unless you specifically ask for it. There’s parking available too, which is honestly a godsend if you’re driving in this part of London. They’ve got maybe three or four spots, so you’ll want to mention it when booking.
Why Guests Love It
What makes this unique boutique hotel work is that it feels like staying with people who actually want you there. The owners live on-site, so there’s always someone around if you need something, but they’re not hovering. It’s clean, quiet, and the kind of place where you can spread out your London maps on the bed and plan your day without feeling cramped. For the price point and the genuine hospitality, it’s become my go-to when I need to be in South London.
You'll need to let the property know in advance what time you'll arrive.
