Overview
First Impressions
Walking up to Great Scotland Yard Hotel, part of Hyatt feels like stepping into a piece of London’s secret history — and honestly, that’s exactly what you’re doing. This five-star luxury property occupies the original headquarters of the Metropolitan Police, and you can actually feel the weight of that legacy the moment you cross the threshold. The building’s Victorian grandeur has been meticulously preserved, but there’s something refreshingly modern about how it welcomes you in.
Location & Westminster Charm
You know what’s brilliant about this spot? You’re literally in the heart of Westminster, tucked away on a quiet street that most tourists walk right past without realizing what they’re missing. London has this way of hiding its best secrets in plain sight, and this hotel is a perfect example. Big Ben is practically around the corner, Whitehall is steps away, and yet you feel like you’ve discovered some exclusive members’ club that nobody else knows about.
The Rooms & Interiors
My room was this gorgeous blend of British heritage and contemporary luxury — think rich fabrics, original architectural details, and modern amenities that actually work properly (which, let’s be honest, isn’t always a given in historic London hotels). The marble bathrooms are particularly impressive, and I mean, when you’re getting ready for dinner with those period windows framing views of historic London, it’s hard not to feel a bit special. The attention to detail is remarkable — from the custom furnishings to the way natural light filters through those tall Georgian windows.
Dining & Social Spaces
The Yard restaurant deserves its own mention — it’s housed in what used to be the police’s original charge room, and the chef has created this menu that somehow captures both British tradition and international sophistication. I actually found myself lingering over breakfast longer than usual, partly because the food was exceptional, but also because the atmosphere in that historic space is just captivating. The cocktail bar has this speakeasy vibe that feels completely natural given the building’s law enforcement past.
Why Guests Love It
Here’s the thing about Great Scotland Yard Hotel — it manages to be both a luxury retreat and a genuine piece of London history without feeling like a museum you’re sleeping in. The service has that effortless British polish you hope for but don’t always find, and there’s something really satisfying about staying somewhere with such authentic character in a city that’s increasingly filled with generic luxury chains. It’s the kind of place where you’ll find yourself taking the long way back to your room just to admire the corridors and wonder about all the history these walls have witnessed.
Hotels in London dot historic Covent Garden, royal squares, and creative quarters brimming with artisan markets.
Guest reviews
"Very good once the room issue was resolved"
Location, quality of everything.
What could be improved: Booked a double room and a twin room and they tried to give us two doubles.
We had two elderly females guests so sharing not an option. Got a twin eventually but they wanted to see booking confirmation. Staff admitted hotel was full and were struggling to meet all booking requests. Sorted within 15 but embarrassing to be left standing at reception. Compensated with a drinks voucher. All ok in the end but unnecessary.

"A Great London stay that is Comfortable, Stylish, and Pleasurable to the taste buds!"
Breakfast at the Yard was the best out of three English Breakfasts during our stay. It was a tough one to meet up to, so, our compliments to your chef! The balcony room was perfect for Us, having a quick breath of fresh air first thing in the morning, and to test-out the outfit for the days' excursions. Your staff was exceptional and Vilia was very helpful and accommodating. Your location with the Westend, Trafaglar Sq. , and just across the Thames for the London Eye is perfect! The design style of your hotel exceeded my expectations with comfort while so pleasing to the eyes! Thank you for making our American Thanksgiving stay a real blessing and treat. We will return for another journey for Westend Shows next year, and without a doubt, I'll be booking in advance with you. Thank you GSY
What could be improved: There wasn't anything really "that I didn't like", rather maybe a couple of hospitality suggestions; (1) offering a hot complimentary beverage for those travelers with a "bit of wait" for their room (ie tea, coffee, or hot cocoa during the holidays),(2) in-room we appreciated the waters, very much, but would have enjoyed more teas, including chamomile. You may have just run-out. (3) The in-room robes were appreciated, as well, but could use a good fabric softener, they were a bit rough on the skin. During our next stay, I will ensure to give in-room-service a go, as we loved your food offerings and feel that we did not take full advantage of the menus, since we enjoyed slumbering and mozying in your suites. It was a wonderful stay overall with very few dislikes, thank you GSY

I like the hotel interior design it’s antique style with a twist. The bidet in the restroom is the cherry on top
