Overview
First Impressions
Walking up to the Grange Buckingham Hotel on Bedford Place, you’ll notice it’s one of those classic Georgian townhouse conversions that London does so well. The facade looks proper and traditional, though honestly, it’s not going to wow you from the street — this is more about what’s inside. I mean, you’re in Bloomsbury here, so you’re getting that authentic London residential feel rather than flashy hotel drama.
The Bloomsbury Advantage
Here’s what I love about this spot — you’re genuinely in one of London’s most walkable neighborhoods. Russell Square is literally around the corner (two minutes, tops), and the British Museum is maybe a ten-minute stroll. You know what’s actually brilliant though? You can walk to Covent Garden in about fifteen minutes, but you’re staying somewhere much quieter. The four-star rating feels right for what you get — solid comfort without trying too hard to be fancy.
The Room Experience
My room was on the third floor, and while it wasn’t huge, it felt properly London-sized if that makes sense. The décor is sort of classic English with modern touches — think deep colors and traditional furniture that’s been updated enough to feel current. The bed was genuinely comfortable, and the bathroom, while compact, had good water pressure (always a win in these older buildings).
Dining and Daily Rhythms
The restaurant downstairs serves decent British fare — nothing revolutionary, but the full English breakfast will set you up properly for a day of sightseeing. What I appreciated was that they actually understand how to make tea, which sounds silly but you’d be surprised how many hotels get this wrong. The staff generally knows the area well, so they’re good for restaurant recommendations in the neighborhood.
Why Guests Keep Coming Back
Look, this isn’t the kind of place that’ll blow your mind, but it does something more valuable — it gets out of your way and lets you enjoy London. The location means you can explore Bloomsbury’s garden squares in the morning, pop back to drop off shopping bags, then head out for dinner in Fitzrovia. Russell Square tube station is right there, so you’re connected to everything. It’s the sort of hotel that works because it understands what travelers actually need rather than what brochures say they want.
To book hotel in London for fashion week buzz, travelers reserve early to pair Westminster sunrise walks with evening pub rituals.

"The Grange Buckingham was an excellent choice for our London visit."
The location is excellent; on a quiet street within walking distance of theaters, restaurants and coffee shops—as well as only one block from the British Museum.
What could be improved: The only lift (elevator) was out of service for the last two days of our stay. The staff, however, proved very helpful with our luggage

"Great location. Clean and spacious accommodation."
Great location, close to station and walking distance to major sights. Very clean and the room was quiet and spacious
What could be improved: We booked as they advertised a lift to upper levels. Unfortunately the lift was out of action for the 8 days that we were at the hotel which msde it difficult for my husband who has knee problems. Staff did offer to carry our bags up the 2 flights of stairs which was great.

"Good location and nice room, but needs some maintenance"
It was a good location, not far from the West End for seeing shows, and the Holborn tube station was a close, easy walk away. The room was spacious, and we liked the little kitchenette with the plates and cutlery provided. We also appreciated the large fan provided in the room, as well as the extra pillows.
What could be improved: The lift was broken when we arrived, and no help was offered for carrying our suitcases up the stairs. Luckily, we managed, but if you're someone with mobility issues or unable to carry heavy items, then you should keep this in mind.
We could see the carpet and other things were a bit worn out, but that really only matters for aesthetics, and we weren't too troubled by it.
While there was warm water in the bath, it never got super hot. And the shower head wasn't ideal.

"Great location"
Great location, roughly a 15 minute walk to covert gardens and trafalgar square. Its an hour walk down Oxford street from Paddington station. We took a bolt on the way back for £17. We came to London to watch the Tina Turner musical which was fantastic. The only downside about our room was the bathroom. It could do with an update. The beds were comfy, bonus to have a kitchen. I would stay again

"Perfect for West End theatre."
The location was fantastic for our trip as we were seeing a West End show, which was less that 15 minutes walk away.
What could be improved: The property and furniture is a little tired but everything was clean and well looked after.

"Very good"
Great Location with very happy and helpful staff. It was no problem to store our luggage before check in and check out. It was an old property but was very clean. Lots of heating and hot water. Liked having a little kitchenette in the bedroom. There were plenty of hangers in the small wardrobe.
What could be improved: The bed settee in our room 104 was very uncomfortable the frame was solid but the metal mesh provided no support to the mattress.

"Comfortable stay thanks - need 2 types of pillows"
Comfortable but not luxury.
Clean - decent towels/linen
Quite location - warm rooms, turned heating down but was still hot.
Opened windows.
Breakfast average - had continental only
Hidden kitchenette- bonus
What could be improved: Bath - need an hour to fill your bath (managed 1/3 in 30 mins and gave up - enough for my achy feet then hubby had cold shower.
Pillows a bit hard for me and took long to settle
