Overview

First Impressions

Fox and Grapes sits on a quiet residential street in Wimbledon, and honestly, you’d walk right past it if you weren’t looking. It’s tucked into a Victorian terrace house that feels more like someone’s really nice home than a hotel. The entrance is understated — just a simple sign and a door that opens into what used to be someone’s front parlor. I mean, that’s exactly what makes this three-star place work so well.

The Neighborhood Feel

Camp Road is one of those streets where locals actually live, not just pass through. You’ve got the All England Lawn Tennis Club literally around the corner — during Wimbledon fortnight, you can practically feel the buzz in the air. But most of the year, it’s just a pleasant residential area where you can grab coffee at the local café or walk to Wimbledon Village in about ten minutes. The train station’s a short stroll away, which gets you into central London in twenty-odd minutes.

What You’re Actually Getting

Your room will likely be smaller than what you’d find in a chain hotel, but everything’s been done thoughtfully. The beds are comfortable, the bathrooms are modern (clearly updated recently), and there’s proper attention to details like good lighting and decent Wi-Fi. Some rooms look out over the quiet street, others face the back garden. You know what surprised me? How quiet it actually is at night — unusual for London.

Food and Common Areas

There isn’t a full restaurant on-site, which some people might miss, but breakfast happens in what feels like a large dining room in someone’s house. It’s continental style — nothing fancy, but the coffee’s decent and there’s enough to get you going. The common areas have this lived-in comfort that you don’t often find in hotels. There’s a small lounge where you can sit with a book if you want.

Why Guests Love It

The Fox and Grapes works because it doesn’t try to be something it’s not. The staff treat you like you’re staying with friends rather than processing you through a system. Parking can be tricky since it’s street parking only, but that’s pretty standard for this part of London. What you get instead is that rare thing — a place that feels authentically local while still being comfortable for travelers. During tournament season, you’re paying for location, but the rest of the year, it’s genuinely good value for being this close to central London while feeling like you’re in a proper neighborhood.

"Excellent apart from showrty"
Lovely room and friendly staff. The breakfast was good. The meal in the evening was delicious
What could be improved: The shower was not safe as very slippery floor and no bath mat supplied to stop slipping. The shower was very slow and not at full flow.

"Fantastic!"
We unfortunately arrived 2 hours early, but the staff were very accomodating and went above and beyond to let us check in early and collapse!
What could be improved: The location was very scenic, right next to a big park in a very quiet area, but this did mean you had to walk quite some distance to get to the nearest bus stop. If you are driving, this won't be a problem.
