First Impressions
Walking into Crestfield Hotel on a quiet Camden side street, you get that immediate sense of “oh, this is actually pretty nice.” I mean, it’s a two-star place, so I wasn’t expecting much — but the reception area has this warm, welcoming feel that catches you off guard. The staff behind the desk genuinely seemed happy to see us, which honestly makes such a difference when you’re dragging luggage around London after a long day of travel.
Location & Getting Around
You know what’s great about Crestfield Street? It’s tucked away enough that you’re not dealing with the chaos of Camden High Street, but you’re still only a three-minute walk from all the action. Camden Town tube station is right there — I timed it at maybe four minutes door-to-platform. The hotel sits in this lovely Georgian terrace that somehow survived everything London’s thrown at it over the years, and there’s something quite charming about that faded grandeur mixed with modern touches.
The Room Experience
My room was small — let’s be honest about that — but cleverly designed in a way that actually works. The bed was surprisingly comfortable (I’m picky about mattresses), and they’d managed to squeeze in a decent-sized desk and a chair that doesn’t make your back ache. The bathroom’s compact but functional, with one of those rainfall showers that actually has proper water pressure. Storage is limited, but there’s enough space to unpack for a few nights without feeling like you’re playing Tetris with your clothes.
Morning Routine & Local Flavor
Breakfast happens in this cozy little dining area on the ground floor — nothing fancy, but they do a proper full English if that’s your thing, plus cereals and toast for lighter appetites. The coffee’s actually decent, which scores major points with me. What I really appreciated was how the staff knew their neighborhood — they pointed me toward this brilliant little café around the corner that I never would’ve found otherwise, and gave me the inside track on which Camden Market stalls are worth the crowds.
Why Guests Love It
Here’s the thing about Crestfield Hotel — it’s not trying to be something it isn’t. It’s a well-run, friendly place that gets the basics right at a price that won’t make you wince when you check your bank balance. The combination of that Camden location (seriously, you can walk to Regent’s Park in fifteen minutes) and staff who actually care about your stay makes it feel like you’ve found a little gem that the tourist hordes haven’t discovered yet. For exploring London without breaking the bank, it’s exactly what you need.
