First Impressions
Cosy 1 bed flat near ExCel & O2 is exactly what it says on the tin — a proper one-bedroom apartment that feels more like staying at a mate’s place than in some sterile hotel chain. I’ll be honest, when I first walked up to the building in London‘s E16 area, it looked pretty standard from the outside, but that’s sort of the point. You’re getting a genuine slice of East London life here, not some polished tourist bubble.
The Space
The flat itself surprised me — it’s got this lived-in warmth that you just can’t fake. The bedroom has a proper double bed (none of those tiny European doubles), and honestly, I slept better here than I have in some fancy places. The kitchen is small but actually functional — I managed to make a decent breakfast and even cooked dinner one night, which saved me a fortune compared to eating out constantly. There’s a little dining table where you can spread out your maps and plan your day, or just sit with a cup of tea and watch London life happening outside the window.
Location Reality
Here’s what you need to know about the location — it’s not central London, and that’s actually brilliant if you’re planning to visit ExCel or the O2 Arena. You’re genuinely close to both venues, which means you can walk back after events instead of dealing with packed tube carriages full of drunk concert-goers. The Docklands Light Railway (DLR) is your friend here, and Custom House station gets you into central London in about 20 minutes. I mean, you’re paying East London prices for what would cost you triple in Zone 1.
Neighborhood Character
The area around the flat has this authentic, multicultural vibe that I actually grew to love. There’s a Tesco Express literally around the corner (lifesaver for groceries), and some proper good curry houses within walking distance. It’s not touristy at all — you’ll see families doing their shopping, office workers heading to Canary Wharf, and kids playing football in the small parks. Actually, that’s what made it feel real to me, you know? Plus, there’s parking available nearby if you’re driving, which is practically impossible in central London.
Why Guests Love It
Look, this place works because it’s honest about what it is. You get your own space, your own key, and the freedom to come and go as you please without dealing with hotel reception desk politics. The host was responsive when I had a question about the heating, but otherwise left me alone to settle in. For the price point and the proximity to major venues, it’s actually a smart choice — especially if you’re in town for events at ExCel or catching a show at the O2. Just don’t expect room service or fancy toiletries, because that’s not what you’re paying for here.
