Stylotel
First Impressions
Stylotel caught me off guard in the best possible way. You know what I mean — you walk into a three-star hotel expecting the usual tired décor, but this place actually has personality. The lobby feels more like a trendy café than your typical London budget hotel, with bold colors and modern touches that somehow work without trying too hard.
Location & Getting Around
Sussex Gardens in Paddington isn’t the most glamorous street, honestly, but that’s exactly why it works. You’re literally a five-minute walk from Paddington Station, which means you can hop on the Elizabeth Line and be in central London faster than you’d expect. I mean, Oxford Street is practically next door, and Hyde Park? You can see it from some of the upper floors.
The Room Experience
The room was smaller than I’d hoped — this is London, after all — but everything felt thoughtfully designed. The bed was surprisingly comfortable, and they’ve managed to squeeze in a decent workspace if you need to get things done. What I really appreciated was the strong WiFi and the fact that the shower had proper water pressure, which you can’t always count on in this price range.
Practical Details
Breakfast happens in a compact space downstairs, and while it’s not going to blow you away, it gets the job done. Continental style with decent coffee — though if you’re picky about your morning brew, there’s a proper café around the corner that locals actually use. The staff here are genuinely helpful too, not just going through the motions like some places.
Why Guests Love It
Look, Stylotel isn’t pretending to be something it’s not, and that’s refreshing. It’s a solid base for exploring London without the tourist trap pricing of hotels closer to the major attractions. The area has character — you’ve got everything from late-night convenience stores to that authentic Indian restaurant two doors down that’s always packed with locals. For the money, especially given how close you are to everything that matters, it just makes sense.
