Overview
First Impressions
Book A Bed Hostels isn’t your typical hostel, and honestly, that’s what caught my attention right away. Tucked away on Tanners Hill in Deptford, this place has more character than most boutique hotels I’ve stayed at. The building itself has this industrial-meets-cozy vibe that somehow works perfectly — you know how some places just feel right the moment you walk in?
The Deptford Discovery
I’ll admit, London’s Deptford isn’t the first neighborhood most tourists think of, but that’s actually part of the charm. You’re in this creative pocket of South London where street art covers brick walls and independent coffee shops outnumber chain stores. The area’s got this authentic London feel that you won’t find in Covent Garden or Kensington. Plus, you can walk to Greenwich in about fifteen minutes — which I did several times because the riverside path is lovely.
The Room Experience
The room I stayed in was surprisingly well thought out. Each bed comes with its own privacy curtain and reading light, which sounds basic but makes all the difference when you’re sharing space with strangers. There are proper lockers too — big enough for a full backpack, not those tiny things that barely fit a daypack. The whole setup feels more like a modern apartment than a traditional hostel dormitory.
Social Spaces That Actually Work
What really sets this place apart is the common areas. There’s a shared kitchen that’s actually equipped for cooking real meals (good knives, decent pots, even some spices), and the lounge area has these mismatched vintage chairs that somehow create the perfect atmosphere for meeting other travelers. I ended up having some great conversations over late-night tea — something that doesn’t always happen at hostels, if I’m being honest.
Why Guests Love It
The staff here genuinely seem to care about creating a community rather than just processing check-ins and check-outs. They’ll give you actual recommendations for the neighborhood, not just the typical tourist spots. Parking isn’t really an issue since you’re well connected by public transport, and the train links to central London are better than you’d expect. It’s the kind of place where budget travelers don’t feel like they’re missing out — you’re getting something different, not something lesser.

"The management should spell out when to put the lights on and when not to ; when people are sleeping. Avoid loud phone c"
The property was east to locate . It was very clean as well. The toilet and bathroom were all clean.
What could be improved: It was my first time in such a place and I loved the property. The only thing I didn't like was lack of respecting sleeping among some of the "tenants " . Someone could enter the bang the door instead of being gentle knowing very well that it's midnight. One could also enter and put on the light in midnight when people were sleeping. Some were also receiving noisy phone calls just outside the door. I didn't sleep the whole night due in due to unregulated noise, although I liked the place. I wish the management will do something about this.

"Impressive place of respite in South London."
Overall, I could say I had a good stay at this place. Staff were helpful when they were on the clock, facilities located about a 10-minute walk away from deptford station, and the facilities were pretty clean. The staff were even nice enough to allow me to purchase a water in the early morning hours..
What could be improved: I suppose it would be helpful if they could have stuff on hand for check-in time to allow people to drop off their baggage. That's all I can really think of.

"Good for what you pay, pleasant, clean, friendly and convenient"
Good location for the marathon. Great staff. Very quiet area. Water coolers useful. Toilets and showers clean. Pub downstairs is lovely. Key app is really easy and convenient.
What could be improved: Not enough toilets and showers when busy. Mattresses uncomfortable but it’s a cheap to stay at hostel I suppose. Had an awful nights sleep before the marathon but that was the other guests fault (several of them snored very, very, very badly) and not the hostels.

"Very good"
Stayed in a pod, which was pretty comfy
What could be improved: There seem to be somewhat limited amount of showers and toilets per floor, didn't have any problems with that, just I suspect at peak times might be a challenge maybe.

"Convenient"
1.Bar downstairs.
2.Fridge was great to have!
What could be improved: No table in room, at times too hot inside.
And nowhere to prep food or wash dishes.
Double bed kept on shifting apart.

"Very good"
Easy check-in till midnight.
Quietness of location.
Easy access to transport.
Friendly staff.
What could be improved: No mugs or plates upstairs. I am sure they would have helped but at late hours or early morning that's not possible.
