First Impressions
When I first pulled up to 1-bedroom Flat in Sutton on Benhill Avenue, I’ll be honest — it’s not flashy. But that’s actually what makes this three-star place work so well. You’re getting a proper self-contained apartment in a quiet residential street, and honestly, that beats cramped hotel rooms nine times out of ten.
The Space
The room setup is what really sold me on this place. You’ve got a separate bedroom (thank goodness), a living area where you can actually spread out, and — here’s the kicker — your own kitchen. I mean, it’s not going to win any design awards, but having somewhere to make proper coffee in the morning or store leftovers makes such a difference when you’re staying more than a night or two.
The furnishing is practical rather than Instagram-worthy, which I actually prefer. Everything works, it’s clean, and there’s enough storage space that you don’t have to live out of your suitcase. The bed’s comfortable enough, and the living room has a decent sofa where you can decompress after a day of exploring.
Location & Getting Around
Here’s where this place really shines — Sutton is one of those South London spots that locals know but tourists often miss. You’re about 30 minutes from central London by train, which sounds like a trek but honestly isn’t bad at all. Sutton station is a short walk away, and the trains run frequently enough that you don’t feel stranded.
What I love about staying here is you get to see how actual Londoners live. There’s a Tesco nearby for groceries, some decent pubs within walking distance, and the high street has everything you need without the tourist markup. Plus, parking isn’t the nightmare it would be closer to the city center.
The Practical Side
Look, this isn’t the kind of place with a concierge or room service, but that’s not what you’re paying for. The host is responsive when you need them, check-in was straightforward, and they’ve thought about the little things — decent WiFi, proper heating, enough hot water. Sometimes that’s all you really need.
Having that kitchen means you can eat breakfast at home, grab lunch somewhere interesting, and maybe cook dinner if you’re tired of restaurant prices in London. The local area has some surprisingly good food options too — there’s a proper Italian place about ten minutes’ walk that does excellent pasta.
Why Guests Love It
You know what? This place works because it doesn’t try to be something it’s not. If you want space to breathe, a proper base for exploring London, and don’t mind being slightly outside the chaos of Zone 1, it’s actually pretty perfect. The value is solid, especially when you factor in not having to eat every meal out.
It’s the kind of place I’d book again — not because it’s fancy, but because it just makes sense. Sometimes that’s exactly what you want from accommodation.
You'll need to let the property know in advance what time you'll arrive.
