First Impressions
Honestly, when I first pulled up to Beautiful Self-contained Cottage on Long Lane, I wasn’t quite sure what to expect. The name sounds almost too good to be true, doesn’t it? But this three-star gem in Ickenham actually lives up to its billing — it’s one of those places where you immediately feel like you’ve stumbled onto something special that most tourists miss entirely.
Location & Getting Around
Ickenham isn’t exactly central London, I’ll give you that, but that’s sort of the point. You’re tucked away in this quiet residential area that feels properly English — tree-lined streets, the kind of neighborhood where people actually know their neighbors. The Ickenham tube station is walkable (about 15 minutes if you don’t mind the stroll), and from there you can get into central London in under an hour. What I really appreciated was having actual parking available — try finding that in Zone 1 without paying a fortune.
The Cottage Experience
This isn’t your typical hotel room situation. The cottage genuinely feels like staying in someone’s well-appointed guest house, complete with your own front door key and everything. The kitchen is what sold me — fully equipped with a proper oven, decent-sized fridge, and all the basics you need if you want to skip eating out for every meal. I mean, there’s something quite nice about making your morning coffee exactly how you like it instead of dealing with those tiny hotel packets.
Comfort & Amenities
The furnishing feels thoughtful rather than fancy — comfortable bed, good heating (which you’ll appreciate during those damp English months), and reliable WiFi that actually works throughout the space. There’s a small sitting area where you can properly spread out, something you don’t realize you miss until you have it again. The shower has decent water pressure too, which honestly can be hit or miss even in much pricier London hotels.
Why Guests Love It
What really works here is the independence it gives you. You’re not dealing with hotel breakfast times or worrying about disturbing neighbors when you come back late from exploring London. The owner clearly knows what travelers actually need — there are local restaurant menus left out, proper directions to the station, and little touches like extra towels without having to ask. For the price point, especially compared to what you’d pay for a cramped London hotel room, it’s honestly quite brilliant. You get space, peace, and still have easy access to everything the city offers.
You'll need to let the property know in advance what time you'll arrive.
