Apex City Of London Hotel
First Impressions
Walking up to the Apex City Of London Hotel on Seething Lane, you immediately get that “this is actually happening” feeling — you’re staying right in the heart of the financial district. The building itself has this sleek, modern presence that fits perfectly among all the glass towers, but it doesn’t feel intimidating like some of those corporate places can. I mean, you’re literally around the corner from the Tower of London, which still blows my mind every time I think about it.
Location and Neighborhood
Honestly, the location is what sold me on this place initially. You’re in the City of London proper — not just greater London — which means you can walk to Monument station in about three minutes, and from there, you’ve got the whole city at your fingertips. What I really love is how quiet Seething Lane gets in the evenings once all the bankers head home. During the day it’s buzzing with that financial district energy, but by 7 PM it’s surprisingly peaceful for being so central.
The Room Experience
The room I stayed in was on the sixth floor, and you know what impressed me most? The attention to detail without being fussy about it. The bed was genuinely comfortable — not just hotel-marketing comfortable — and the bathroom had one of those rainfall showers that actually works properly. The windows are well-insulated too, which matters when you’re surrounded by construction and city noise. There’s decent desk space if you need to get some work done, and the WiFi is fast enough that I could video call without any issues.
Dining and Amenities
The hotel restaurant downstairs serves solid food — nothing that’ll change your life, but definitely better than I expected from a four-star business hotel. I tried their full English breakfast one morning, and it was properly done with good quality ingredients. The staff there actually remember you after a day or two, which is a nice touch. There’s also a small gym that’s well-equipped enough for a decent workout, and honestly, it’s usually pretty empty in the mornings.
Why Guests Love It
What really sets this place apart is how it manages to feel professional without being stuffy. The staff are genuinely helpful — not just going through the motions — and they seem to understand that most guests are here for business but still want to feel comfortable. The whole operation runs smoothly, and you get the sense that problems would be sorted quickly if they came up. Plus, there’s something pretty special about stepping out your hotel door and being able to walk along the Thames in five minutes, or pop over to Borough Market for lunch. It’s that perfect balance of being in the thick of things but having a quiet retreat to come back to.
