Upper Berkeley Hotel
First Impressions
When I first spotted the Upper Berkeley Hotel on its quiet street near Marble Arch, I honestly wasn’t expecting much from the unassuming Georgian façade. But you know what? Sometimes the best finds are the ones that don’t shout about themselves. This three-star property sits on a tree-lined stretch that feels surprisingly peaceful for being so close to all the Oxford Street madness.
Location & Getting Around
Here’s the thing about staying near Marble Arch — you’re actually in this sweet spot where you can walk to Hyde Park in about two minutes, but Oxford Street and all its shopping chaos is just as close. The Marble Arch tube station is literally around the corner, which means getting anywhere in London is pretty straightforward. I mean, you can be in Covent Garden in fifteen minutes or catch the Central line straight to Liverpool Street.
The Room Experience
My room was compact — let’s be honest about London hotel standards — but it felt thoughtfully designed rather than cramped. The bed was comfortable enough, and I actually appreciated the modern touches they’d added without going overboard. The bathroom was small but functional, with decent water pressure (always a win in older London buildings). There’s air conditioning too, which isn’t a given in this price range.
Breakfast & Dining
The continental breakfast won’t blow you away, but it’s perfectly adequate with fresh pastries, decent coffee, and the usual suspects. What I liked was that they serve it in this bright little area that catches the morning light well. There’s no full restaurant, but honestly, with so many great spots within walking distance — including some fantastic pubs tucked away in the nearby Marylebone streets — you’re not really missing out.
Why Guests Appreciate It
Look, this isn’t the kind of place you’ll be posting Instagram shots of your suite, but it delivers exactly what you need for exploring London without the premium price tag. The staff are genuinely helpful rather than just polite, and the building has this quiet efficiency that I found pretty refreshing. You’re paying for a solid base in a great location, and sometimes that’s exactly what makes sense — especially when you’re planning to spend most of your time out discovering the city anyway.
