Twyne House Apartments
First Impressions
Walking down Back Church Lane to find Twyne House Apartments, you might wonder if you’re in the right place — it’s tucked away on this quiet residential street that feels worlds apart from the chaos of central London. The building itself has that converted warehouse feel that’s become so popular in East London, with clean lines and large windows that hint at the spacious interiors waiting inside. Honestly, I was pleasantly surprised by how peaceful this little corner of Aldgate feels.
Location & Getting Around
Here’s what I love about this spot — you’re literally a five-minute walk from Aldgate East station, which puts you on the District and Hammersmith & City lines. That means Liverpool Street is practically next door, and you can reach Oxford Circus in about 15 minutes. The Tower of London is so close you could walk there after breakfast, and Borough Market is just across the river if you’re into that whole foodie scene (which, let’s be honest, you should be).
The Apartment Experience
This four-star property gets the apartment concept right in a way that many London places don’t. Each unit comes with a proper kitchen — not some sad mini-fridge situation, but actual cooking space with everything you need. The room layouts feel generous by London standards, with high ceilings that make everything feel airier than you’d expect. I mean, you’re not going to mistake it for a penthouse, but there’s enough space to actually unpack and settle in for more than just a night or two.
Neighborhood Character
What really struck me about staying here was discovering this side of Tower Hamlets that tourists rarely see. You’ve got proper local pubs within walking distance — The Water Poet on Folgate Street does excellent Sunday roasts, by the way. Spitalfields Market is right there when you want that mix of vintage finds and street food, but when you head back to Twyne House in the evening, you’re escaping into this surprisingly residential pocket. There’s even decent parking nearby if you’re brave enough to drive in London, though honestly, you won’t need a car from here.
Why Guests Keep Coming Back
The 7.8 rating makes sense when you actually stay here — it’s that sweet spot between hotel convenience and apartment independence. You get daily housekeeping and a front desk that actually helps, but you can also cook your own breakfast or store leftovers from Dishoom (which is criminally close, just saying). The Wi-Fi works properly, the showers have decent pressure, and — this might sound small but it matters — the windows open wide enough to get proper fresh air. It’s not trying to be something it’s not, which in London’s overpriced accommodation scene, feels refreshingly honest.
Exploring London blends royal heritage, UNESCO landmarks, and vibrant neighborhoods glowing with golden-hour light.
