Overview
First Impressions
Tranquil Urban Haven sits on a quiet residential street in Hackney that feels surprisingly peaceful for being so close to central London. The building itself is this lovely converted Victorian house — you know, the kind with original features that actually work rather than just look pretty. When I first walked up, I honestly wasn’t expecting much from the exterior, but the moment you step inside, there’s this immediate sense of calm that hits you.
The Neighborhood
Powell Road is one of those streets locals love because it’s tucked away from the main Hackney bustle. You’re about a ten-minute walk to London Fields, which is perfect for morning runs or just watching the world go by with a coffee. The area’s got this great mix — families, young professionals, artists — and you’ll find some really decent pubs within walking distance. I mean, The Pembury Tavern is practically around the corner, and their beer selection is something else.
The Room Experience
My room was on the second floor, and I’ll be honest — the stairs are a bit steep, but worth it for the quiet. The space felt thoughtfully designed rather than just decorated. There’s this nice balance of modern amenities (proper shower pressure, thank goodness) with character details like the original sash windows. The bed was genuinely comfortable, and I actually slept well, which doesn’t always happen when I’m traveling.
Daily Comforts
The breakfast setup is simple but well-executed — continental style with really good coffee and fresh pastries from a local bakery. There’s a small communal area downstairs where guests tend to gather in the mornings, and I found myself chatting with other travelers more than I usually do. The staff knows the area inside out, too — they pointed me toward this little Lebanese place for dinner that I never would’ve found otherwise.
Why Guests Love It
This four-star place really gets the balance right between being in London but not feeling overwhelmed by it. You can easily hop on the Overground at Hackney Downs station (about eight minutes on foot) and be in trendy Shoreditch or the City in no time. But when you come back in the evening, you’re returning to this peaceful residential pocket where you can actually hear yourself think. The 8.4 rating makes sense — it’s not trying to be flashy, just genuinely welcoming and well-run.

"Good"
Clean and spacious and reasonably price compared to similar options.
What could be improved: Kitchen needed more glasses, mugs etc, and would be nice to have dishwasher tablets included - we had to go out to buy some. Hooks on the doors for towels and coats too please.

"Superb"
It was clean and we had enough space, and the insulation is very good because it's very quiet once the windows are closed, even though there's a lot of traffic in the street. Very good accommodation!
What could be improved: There was no store in one of the bedroom, then when the sun is rising, it's difficult to sleep

"Pleasant stay, just what was needed for the two days while we attended a concert."
Property was well presented, everything that you need for a pleasant stay.
Liked the fact they had provided Tea & Coffee, Shower gel and lotions in the bathrooms, its the small details like that that add a finishing touch.
What could be improved: When gaining access to the property, instructions of entry need to be clear ie: fob on keys is needed to open the gate.
Need mirrors in the bedrooms for when getting ready as the bathrooms mirrors get steamed up.
Blinds in the living area are damaged and need looking at.
When we had an issue getting into the gate, tried to call the host but the number was unavailable. Did however message the host through Booking.com and they responded promptly and the issue was resolved.

What could be improved: We needed some scissors and an ironing board which the flat didn’t have. Everything else was great.

Beautifully presented and furnished property, very clean, prompt replies to issues raised.
What could be improved: A bit noisy from the road outside, and kitchen wasn't that well stocked for cooking for 5, but overall a great place
