Overview

First Impressions

Thistle London Bloomsbury Park sits on Southampton Row like it’s been watching over this corner of London for decades — and honestly, it probably has. The Georgian facade gives you that proper British hotel feeling without being stuffy about it. You know what I mean? It’s a three-star place that doesn’t try to pretend it’s something fancier, which I actually found refreshing after staying at hotels that oversell themselves.

The Neighborhood Advantage

Here’s the thing about Bloomsbury — you’re basically in the sweet spot between touristy chaos and local London life. Russell Square is literally a two-minute walk, and I spent more time than I’d like to admit wandering through those perfectly manicured gardens. The British Museum? Maybe ten minutes on foot, tops. But what I really loved was how you can duck into proper pubs like The Lamb on Lamb’s Conduit Street, where locals actually drink alongside the visitors.

The Room Experience

My room was on the fourth floor — compact but cleverly arranged, which seems to be the London way of doing things. The beds are comfortable enough, though I wouldn’t call them exceptional. What struck me was how quiet everything felt despite being on a busy street. The windows actually block out most of the traffic noise, which matters when you’re trying to recover from jet lag. The ensuite bathroom was small but functional, with decent water pressure that worked well after long days of walking around the city.

Practical Matters

The front desk staff know their stuff — they pointed me toward Borough Market instead of the obvious tourist traps, which tells you they actually care about giving good advice. There’s no spa or anything fancy, but there is a business center if you need to print boarding passes or catch up on emails. The hotel restaurant serves breakfast that’s perfectly adequate — nothing revolutionary, but proper English breakfast components done right. I mean, sometimes that’s exactly what you want.

Why Guests Keep Coming Back

Look, Thistle London Bloomsbury Park isn’t going to wow you with flashy amenities or over-the-top service. What it does is give you a solid base in one of London’s most walkable neighborhoods without charging Mayfair prices. You’re close enough to everything that matters — King’s Cross station is fifteen minutes away, Oxford Street shopping is walkable, and you’ve got about six different Tube lines within easy reach. It’s the kind of place that works well for people who plan to spend their time exploring the city rather than hanging around the hotel.

"Great for a weekend to visit the sites of london"
Bedroom had pretty much everything you could need, and the bed was very comfortable. The breakfast was great and the hotel staff were very friendly and welcoming. The location is one of the main selling aspects, with only a couple minutes walk to a tube station and 20 minutes walk to picadilly and Oxford street. For a weekend getaway, would definitely recommend the hotel.
What could be improved: While the hotel generally feels like a 4*, the rooms don't live up to other 4* hotels we've stayed in. They have everything you need and are functional but are quite dated on the furnishings and look like they need a bit of refurbishment.

"Pleasant"
It was idealy positioned for where wanted to visit, the staff we fantastic, very helpful and happy. Breakfast was excellent, great selection and plentiful.
What could be improved: The lift broke, and we were on the fifth floor. The stair carpet was thread bare. The sink in the bathroom had two large cracks in it. the tea/coffee wasn't replenished. When we returned to get bags out for checkout...at 11, 10.55 the key card stopped working. Several people complained.

"Lovely, clean, comfortable and friendly! Amazing!!"
It was an amazing location, room perfect for our needs. Staff were fantastic, in particular Panos, who was so welcoming. As well as the lady working breakfast on 16th November, she deserves more money as she worked so hard!!!
What could be improved: Not enough breakfast staff, not fair to put on employees in that way. Get another toaster and more cups/ cutlery - it would remove the pressure for breakfast

"It suited our needs well and we would certainly consider staying there again"
Ideally located for a weekend in central London. The room was clean, comfortable and quiet which was great. It was quite a small room though and only had one double plug socket which was a bit of a problem. There was a small safe which I always appreciate.
What could be improved: More plugs, especially by the bed, one double socket isn't enough if you want to watch telly, make a cup of tea and charge 2 phones!

"Very comfortable and convenient -- we'll be back!"
Excellent location, room (209) small but comfortable and quiet. Staff helpful and friendly. Bathroom/shower excellent. Plenty of towels/pillows. Very comfortable bed. Tea/coffee-making facilities were most welcome (and the free water and chocolates -- a nice touch). Breakfast very good. Housekeeping seemed fine. Interesting historic building (stained glass panels!), generally well modernised and nicely decorated. Parking would have been a problem in such a central location, but we have a Blue Badge so an easy walk from the Disabled spaces in Queen Square.
What could be improved: The lift is very small and cramped -- we didn't know how someone in a wheelchair would manage. And it has a mind of its own -- would tend to go all the way up to the 5th floor and down again instead of stopping where we wanted it to. We appreciate that it's an old building and it is clever of you to have managed to install a lift at all! The room needs more power sockets. Again, we appreciate that it's an old building and facilities are limited, but some sockets on either side of the bed should be pretty much essential. My partner thought the breakfast was excellent, although I felt it could have had a little more variety.
