The Vintage – Fitzrovia – by Frankie Says
First Impressions
The Vintage – Fitzrovia – by Frankie Says sits on a corner in one of London’s most creative neighborhoods, and honestly, the name gives you a pretty good idea of what you’re walking into. This three-star spot has character written all over it — from the vintage-inspired lobby to the quirky artwork that lines the walls. It’s not trying to be something it’s not, which I actually found refreshing after staying in so many cookie-cutter places.
The Neighborhood Feel
Fitzrovia is one of those areas that locals love but tourists often miss, tucked between the chaos of Oxford Street and the polish of Marylebone. You’re literally a five-minute walk from the BBC Broadcasting House, and Charlotte Street — with its incredible mix of independent cafes and restaurants — is right around the corner. I spent most mornings grabbing coffee from the little place next door before heading out, and there’s something nice about being in a part of London that still feels like people actually live and work there.
The Room Experience
My room was compact but thoughtfully designed, with vintage touches that felt authentic rather than forced. The bed was surprisingly comfortable for a mid-range hotel, and they’ve clearly put some thought into the lighting — you know how hotel rooms can feel harsh and clinical? This wasn’t that. The bathroom was small but functional, with a decent shower that actually had good water pressure. There’s no kitchen, but honestly, with all the food options in the area, you won’t miss it.
Daily Rhythms
The restaurant downstairs serves a solid breakfast — nothing fancy, but the kind of proper English breakfast that sets you up for a day of walking around London. Staff are genuinely friendly without being overly chatty, which strikes the right balance when you’re trying to figure out your day. I noticed they’re pretty good with local recommendations too, and they actually know the area rather than just handing you the same tourist brochure everyone else gets.
Why Guests Love It
Look, this isn’t going to wow you with amenities — there’s no spa or fancy concierge service. What it does offer is a genuine neighborhood experience in one of London’s most interesting areas, at a price that won’t destroy your budget. The 7.2 rating makes sense to me; it’s doing exactly what a good three-star hotel should do without any pretensions. If you want to feel like you’re staying somewhere with personality rather than just a place to sleep, and you appreciate being around actual Londoners going about their daily lives, this works really well.
You'll need to let the property know in advance what time you'll arrive.
