Overview
First Impressions
Walking up to The Chapter Hotels – Griffin House on Connaught Street, you get that “oh, this is actually pretty nice” feeling. The Georgian townhouse facade fits right into the Bayswater streetscape — nothing flashy, but there’s something reassuring about the clean lines and well-maintained entrance. It’s the kind of place where you realize London doesn’t always have to break the bank, especially when you’re getting a solid three-star experience without the tourist trap vibes.
Location That Actually Works
Here’s what I love about this spot in London — you’re genuinely close to everything that matters, but you’re not drowning in crowds. Hyde Park is literally a two-minute walk away, which means morning runs or evening strolls whenever you want them. The Paddington area gets overlooked by a lot of visitors, but honestly, that works in your favor. You’ve got Lancaster Gate tube station nearby, and from there the whole city opens up. Plus, there’s something nice about coming back to a neighborhood that feels more residential than touristy.
The Room Experience
My room was compact — let’s be honest about that — but thoughtfully designed. These aren’t massive spaces, but everything you need is there and it’s been put together with some care. The bed was comfortable enough, and I actually appreciated the modern touches they’ve added while keeping some of the building’s character. The bathroom was clean and functional, though if you’re traveling with lots of luggage, you’ll need to be strategic about space. What struck me was how quiet it was at night, considering you’re in central London.
Practical Details
The staff here seem to get it — they’re helpful without being overly formal, and they know the area well enough to give you actual recommendations rather than just pointing you toward the obvious tourist spots. There’s no restaurant on-site, but that’s not really a problem when you’ve got so many options within walking distance. Honestly, I found myself grabbing breakfast at the little places along Connaught Street most mornings anyway. The whole setup feels more like a well-run local operation than a chain hotel trying to be everything to everyone.
Why Guests Love It
You know what makes this place work? It doesn’t try to be something it’s not. The Chapter Hotels – Griffin House delivers exactly what it promises — a clean, comfortable base in a good location at a price that won’t make you wince. If you’re the type of traveler who spends most of your time out exploring rather than lounging in hotel amenities, this hits the sweet spot. The value proposition is solid, the neighborhood has character, and you’re not sacrificing location for affordability. Sometimes that’s exactly what you need in London.
Early hotels booking in London secures West End tickets, rooftop cocktail nights, and small-group afternoon tea sessions.

"Very good value for money for the centre of london"
Really lovely people that were helpful as I checked in. The room was clean, safe and secure which made me feel comfortable as I was travelling alone. Affordable and does what it says on the tin really but so central and really nice staff I would book again:)
What could be improved: I was a bit cold as the windows are original but the radiator did the trick.

"Good value for the money, really close to Hide Park and transportation."
Easy to find, true to the presentation photos and the fact that we could leave our luggage at the property even though an early check in was not possible. Friendly and supportive staff.
What could be improved: A mini fridge could have been useful, but that would have been an extra benefit. Everything was great.

"Solo traveller, single room."
Fantastic central location and good for the money (£100 a night for single bed room).
Room was at the back of the building and despite road works out the front it was really quiet.
Room was kept very clean. I had a kettle and complimentary tea/coffee, but no water or sink in the room to fill it, didn't bother me as don't drink hot drinks anyway.
Had a fan on the wall and a plug-in heater to control temperature.
What could be improved: When checking in, the chap at the desk appeared to search around for something that never came? I guessed the key, but all the rooms are keypad entry. He was quiet and not particularly useful.
I don't think there was breakfast facilities and if they were it was not advertised.
My room was in the 50's floor. Being room 50, 51, 53, 54 on the 4th floor.
The 'private' toilet was shared between these 4 rooms with a door that didn't lock and no way of drying hands afterwards.
Little niggles which I guess match the price, but overall affected the stay. I only stayed 2 nights as travelled for a conference, I would not want to stay longer.

"Small rooms but great staff"
Very good communication. Very glad they gave us the code via text. Very helpful staff!
What could be improved: Check out time is 11am which is fine but we were literally packing our stuff and at 10:57am the cleaner was bursting through the door. I understand they have a job to do but next time they should knock. We were out of the room on time.

"Nice place in a gorgeous area"
The bed was very comfy, view from the window was gorgeous, lovely location, simple check in, room code instead of a key, bathroom was nice, quite quiet at night, felt very safe, plug near bed, free toiletries and tea facilities in room, good lighting around bed, fan opposite bed
What could be improved: Couple of hairs on the bed when I arrived (but assume it was clean), no one at the front desk to check out, property not responsive on the app I booked through before arriving, I didn't realise there wasn't a lift when booking

"Pleasant"
The location was great, the service and the cleanliness was good
What could be improved: It was in the basement, so very smelly and very moist, impossible to stay in for long period of time

"Pleasant stay with good location"
The location was great. Also it was very clean. Good tv. Felt safe with the type of security locks and a reception.
What could be improved: The room was very small. But that’s what you get in London for the price.
